Playa Bowls Opens Fifth San Antonio Location on Potranco Road

May 13 2026

A new Playa Bowls location has opened on San Antonio’s Far West Side, adding another fresh and fast dining option for residents in one of the city’s fastest-growing areas.

Located at 12922 Potranco Rd., Unit 124, San Antonio, TX 78253, the new shop officially opened April 4 and marks Playa Bowls’ fifth location in San Antonio. The restaurant serves a wide menu of açaí bowls, pitaya bowls, smoothies, cold brews, juices, oatmeal bowls, and other fruit-forward options built around fresh ingredients and customizable toppings.

The new location is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

For many families and commuters along the Potranco corridor, the opening adds another convenient stop for breakfast, post-workout meals, afternoon pick-me-ups, or lighter dinner options close to home. As the Far West Side continues to expand with new neighborhoods, schools, and retail development, national brands have increasingly followed the area’s rapid growth.

A Brand That Started With Two Surfers and a Blender

Playa Bowls traces its roots back to Belmar, New Jersey, where founders Rob Giuliani and Abby Taylor launched the business in 2014 after traveling through surf towns and falling in love with açaí bowls along the way.

What started as a small sidewalk cart quickly grew into a loyal local following before expanding nationwide. Today, the company operates nearly 400 locations across 30 states while keeping much of its original beach-town identity at the center of the brand.

The shops are intentionally designed to feel casual and welcoming, blending tropical flavors with a laid-back atmosphere that leans heavily into the idea of everyday wellness without feeling overly complicated.

That approach has helped Playa Bowls build a strong following, especially among customers looking for fresher grab-and-go options that still feel filling and customizable.

Bowls, Smoothies, Cold Brew and More

The Potranco Road menu includes many of the chain’s best-known bowls, including the Pura Vida, Tropical, Power Bowl, Dragonberry, Electric Mermaid, Nutella Bowl, and Pink Flamingo.

Customers can choose from different bases like açaí, pitaya, coconut, mango, green blends, and banana blends before adding toppings ranging from granola and fresh fruit to chia seeds, peanut butter, almond butter, coconut flakes, cacao nibs, honey, and Nutella.

The smoothie lineup includes drinks like the Aloha, Dolce, Green Smoothie, Strawberry Banana, Matcha, and Booster smoothies, alongside protein-packed options designed for post-gym recovery or meal replacements.

The shop also offers juices, wellness shots, oatmeal bowls, and New Orleans-style chicory cold brew drinks.

Playa Bowls is currently featuring a limited-time “Mermaid SZN” menu with several tropical-inspired bowls and smoothies made with blue spirulina, mango, coconut, pitaya, and fresh fruit. The seasonal lineup was introduced during Women’s Health Month and focuses on colorful superfruit blends and functional ingredients.

Growth Continues Along the Far West Side

The new Playa Bowls joins a wave of restaurants and retail projects continuing to reshape the Potranco Road corridor, where growth on San Antonio’s Far West Side has accelerated over the last few years.

In recent months, the area has seen a steady mix of new concepts and developments move in alongside expanding neighborhoods like Arcadia Ridge, Stevens Ranch, and Potranco Ranch West. Slim Chickens recently opened another location along Potranco Road, bringing fresh, hand-breaded chicken with bold flavors to the area. New retail centers and mixed-use developments are also continuing to fill in stretches of the corridor that looked very different just a few years ago.

With smoothies, fruit bowls, juices, coffee drinks, and later evening hours, the new shop has great potential to become part of the regular rotation for nearby residents looking for something lighter than traditional fast food without sacrificing convenience.
