85°C Bakery Cafe Opens in Windcrest, Bringing Fresh Pastries, Cakes and Coffee to Northeast San Antonio
For residents in Windcrest, Converse, Kirby, Live Oak and Northeast San Antonio, the aroma of freshly baked bread and brewed coffee is now a little closer to home.
85°C Bakery Cafe has officially opened its newest San Antonio-area location at Windcrest Town Center, 5253 Walzem Road, Suite 1, following a $1.2 million renovation of the 4,030-square-foot space. The café is currently operating under soft opening hours from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily through June 25, giving local residents their first opportunity to experience one of the world's fastest-growing bakery café brands.
The opening brings a globally recognized bakery concept to the Windcrest area, adding another dining and gathering option for families, commuters, students and coffee lovers in Northeast Bexar County.
A Global Bakery Brand Arrives in Windcrest
Founded in Taiwan in 2003 by entrepreneur Cheng-Hsueh Wu, 85°C Bakery Cafe was built around a simple idea: premium coffee, artisan breads and beautiful cakes should be accessible and affordable enough for people to enjoy every day.
The company has since expanded to more than 1,000 locations worldwide and has developed a devoted following across the United States since opening its first American location in Irvine, California, in 2008. The brand quickly gained national attention, earning coverage from outlets including TIME, CNN, NPR and the Travel Channel.
The café's name comes from the belief that 85 degrees Celsius is the ideal temperature for brewing espresso, symbolizing the company's commitment to quality coffee and baked goods.
For Windcrest-area residents, the opening means access to a bakery experience that combines Asian-inspired flavors, European baking techniques and traditional coffeehouse offerings under one roof.
More Than a Bakery
Walking into an 85°C Bakery Cafe is a bit different from a traditional bakery or coffee shop.
Guests browse self-serve bakery trays filled with pastries that are baked fresh throughout the day, while baristas prepare handcrafted coffee, teas, smoothies and specialty drinks to order. An in-house cake counter offers everything from individual desserts to celebration cakes for birthdays, graduations and special occasions.
Among the café's most popular items are its signature Marble Taro bread, Hokkaido Custard Bun, 85°C Egg Tart, Taro Roll, Chocolate Croissant, Boroh Danish and Milk Butter Puff Pastry.
Savory selections include customer favorites such as the Cheese Dog, Garlic Cheese Bread, Ham & Cheese, Green Onion Bread, Potato Croquette and Pork Sung Bun, a Taiwanese bakery staple topped with shredded pork and the café's signature mayonnaise blend.
Cakes and Desserts for Every Occasion
The new Windcrest location also offers the extensive cake program that has helped make 85°C a destination for celebrations.
Customers can choose from whole cakes and individual slices featuring flavors such as Classic Tiramisu, Mango Cheesecake, Coffee Crème Brûlée, Black Forest, Red Velvet, Tiramisu Cheesecake, Ube Cream Cake and Deluxe Strawberry Cream.
Smaller desserts include cream puffs, cheesecakes, tarts, pudding cups, mousse desserts and Japanese-inspired pastries.
The variety gives local families another option for birthday parties, family gatherings and special events without needing to travel across the city.
Coffee, Boba and Specialty Drinks
While the bakery cases may attract first-time visitors, many customers become regulars because of the drink menu.
The café's signature 85°C Coffee is brewed with Guatemalan coffee beans and made individually to order. Other popular coffee selections include Vietnamese Coffee, Sea Salt Coffee, Café Latte, Americano, Caramel Macchiato and Brown Sugar Oat Latte.
Tea enthusiasts will find an extensive selection of milk teas, fruit teas and specialty beverages, including Boba Milk Tea, Thai Tea, Sea Salt Jasmine Green Tea, Mango Green Tea, Passion Fruit Green Tea and Fresh Strawberry Milk Tea.
The menu also features smoothies, slushes and specialty drinks such as the Tiger Boba Latte, Frozen Marble Taro, Sea Salt Matcha Latte and Strawberry Matcha Latte.
What the Opening Means for the Community
New restaurant and retail openings often signal continued investment in growing areas, and the arrival of 85°C Bakery Cafe reflects the ongoing commercial growth occurring along the Walzem Road corridor and throughout Northeast San Antonio.
The café occupies a newly renovated space within Windcrest Town Center following construction that began in December 2025 and concluded in April 2026. The project represents a significant investment in the area and introduces a nationally recognized brand that may draw visitors from across Bexar County.
For nearby residents, however, the biggest impact may be much simpler: another place to meet friends over coffee, pick up fresh pastries on the way to work, celebrate milestones with a specialty cake or enjoy a weekend treat without leaving the neighborhood.
