Coach Plans New Store at Alamo Quarry Market, Bringing Another Luxury Retail Addition to San Antonio’s Landmark Shopping Destination
San Antonio shoppers could soon see another recognizable luxury retail name arrive at Alamo Quarry Market as plans move forward for a new Coach store at the historic shopping and entertainment center near Broadway and Loop 410.
According to permitting details filed in Bexar County, Coach is planning a renovation and alteration project at Alamo Quarry Market located at 255 E. Basse Rd., Suites 154 and 158, San Antonio, TX 78209. Construction is expected to begin July 13, 2026, with completion targeted for Oct. 16, 2026. The project carries an estimated cost of approximately $910,875.
The planned 5,205-square-foot retail space will include new interior non-bearing walls, updated sales and stockroom shelving, mechanical, electrical and plumbing work, along with new interior finishes designed to support the brand’s modern retail experience.
For shoppers in San Antonio’s growing North Central corridor, the addition reflects continued momentum at Alamo Quarry Market, one of the city’s most recognizable retail destinations and a longtime symbol of adaptive reuse and historic preservation.
A New Chapter for a San Antonio Landmark
Long before it became a shopping and dining destination, Alamo Quarry Market played a major role in helping build Texas itself.
The property was once home to the Alamo Cement Plant, an industrial site that operated for more than a century. Today, many of the original architectural elements remain integrated into the development, including the iconic smokestacks that still tower over the property and remain visible from Highway 281.
Since opening in 1998, the open-air center has evolved into one of San Antonio’s most established retail hubs, spanning approximately 580,000 square feet with a mix of national retailers, restaurants and entertainment venues.
The center is home to more than 75 stores and specialty retailers, including Lululemon, Nike, Banana Republic, GAP, Pottery Barn, Columbia Sportswear, Lucchese Boot Co. and Whole Earth Provision Co., which was notably constructed around the site’s historic smokestacks.
Its dining lineup has also helped make the Quarry a regional destination, with restaurants including Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, Seasons 52, Piatti, Kura Sushi, P.F. Chang’s, Lupe Tortilla Mexican Restaurant and J. Alexander’s.
The planned Coach store adds another internationally recognized fashion brand to the center’s evolving retail mix.
Coach Continues Its Legacy as “The Original American House of Leather”
Founded in New York in 1941 by six artisans with a vision for handcrafted leather goods, Coach has grown into one of the world’s most recognized American fashion brands.
Over the decades, the company transformed from a family-run leather goods business into a global fashion house known for handbags, accessories, apparel and lifestyle collections inspired by New York City style.
The brand credits much of its early creative transformation to designer Bonnie Cashin, who became Coach’s first lead designer in 1962 and helped redefine the company through bold color, modern functionality and accessible luxury.
Today, under Creative Director Stuart Vevers, Coach describes itself as “the Original American House of Leather,” emphasizing craftsmanship, self-expression and authenticity while continuing to modernize its retail experience for younger generations of shoppers.
The company has also increasingly focused on sustainability and longevity in its products, stating that it aims to create “better-made things” designed to last.
In 2025, Coach’s history and rise in American fashion were highlighted in BAG MAN: The Story Behind the Improbable Rise of Coach, written by former CEO Lew Frankfort.
What the Addition Could Mean for the Area
While the renovation itself focuses on interior improvements, the arrival of another high-profile retail tenant could further strengthen Alamo Quarry Market’s position as a premier shopping destination in San Antonio.
Retail developments of this kind often generate increased visitor traffic not only for the incoming store, but also for neighboring restaurants and surrounding businesses. For nearby residents and shoppers, continued investment at the Quarry also signals ongoing confidence in the area’s long-term commercial growth.
The project comes as San Antonio continues to see retail and mixed-use development activity expand across several major corridors, particularly in areas with established consumer traffic and strong regional visibility.
For many locals, however, Alamo Quarry Market remains more than a retail center. Its preserved industrial architecture and recognizable smokestacks have made it one of the city’s most identifiable landmarks — a place where San Antonio’s history and modern growth intersect.
Construction on the Coach store is expected to wrap up in fall 2026.
