Schiel Road Widening Project Begins in Cypress
Precinct 3 Commissioner Tom S. Ramsey’s Office has begun construction on Schiel Road from west of Fairfield Place Drive to west of Mason Road, converting it from a 2-lane asphalt road to a 4-lane concrete boulevard with storm sewer drainage. This $4.9 million project is expected to be complete in the second quarter of 2024.
“We are always assessing the needs of our communities so they can travel around Precinct 3 safely and efficiently,” said Commissioner Tom Ramsey “Widening lanes to increase traffic flow is just one of the ways we’re able to meet the needs of our growing communities. This project, in particular, will support future traffic increases from the Grand Parkway.”
Precinct 3 engineers include high standards of safety elements within each of their road widening projects, taking into consideration a road’s steepness and curves, and school zone safety. This project, which is near Swenke Elementary, includes the installation of sidewalks, crosswalks, and school zone flashing lights near the campus. Also, the addition of a raised median will help to reduce head-on collisions, run-off incidences, and sideswipe crashes.
In November, Precinct 3 will complete the widening of Schiel Road from Fairfield Place to the 99 Grand Parkway. The project construction cost for that portion of road is approximately $5.6 million.
