Sam Houston Area Council of Scouting America and Katy Cares Launch New Cub Scout Pack for Single-Parent Families
In a joint effort to empower and transform the lives of single-parent families, Katy Cares and the Sam Houston Area Council of Scouting America have announced the formation of a new Cub Scouting Pack. This innovative initiative, designed explicitly for the children of single parents enrolled in Katy Cares' parenting program, marks an important step in providing multidimensional support to single-parent families.
Cub Scouting, the largest division of Scouting America, is a program targeted at boys and girls aged 5 to 10. It aims to foster character development, citizenship training, personal fitness, and leadership skills in a nurturing and constructive setting. Instituting a Cub Scouting Pack solely for the children of single-parent families elevates this mission, offering these children an environment designed to encourage growth and learning while promoting a spirit of community and camaraderie.
Katy Cares is a non-profit organization established in 2016 that has been dedicated to addressing the needs of the most vulnerable members of our community - single-parent families. They provide assistance to families facing trauma due to circumstances such as divorce, abuse, financial instability, and natural disasters. Over the years, Katy Cares has made significant strides in empowering these families towards improved physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing.

Through a comprehensive suite of programs, including coaching, counseling, mentoring, and training, the organization has been a beacon of hope for those navigating the challenges of single parenthood. They also offer critical resources like furniture, food, clothing, legal aid, affordable healthcare, and more, lending a helping hand in seeing these families through tough times.
The formation of this unique Cub Scouting Pack deepens the commitment of Katy Cares and Scouting America to single-parent families. As a Scout parent, spending time with their child participating in Scouting activities can form meaningful bonds, create lasting memories, and instill important life skills. These experiences not only enrich the lives of the youth but also give parents a rewarding and fulfilling opportunity along their parenthood journey.
