Romp n' Roll Comes to Cypress: A New Play Center for Young Children to Learn, Grow, and Connect

August 16 2024

Cypress is gearing up to welcome Romp n' Roll, an innovative wonderland of play for children aged 3 months to 5 years. The Cypress location will mark the second Romp n' Roll in the Greater Houston Area, following the Katy location that opened in June of 2020.

The Romp n’ Roll concept was originally conceived by Michael and Babz Barnett, who were inspired to develop a play center that could provide a diverse array of experiences for young children. After opening their first location in 2004 in their hometown of Richmond, Virginia, the Barnetts had a vision that their play-center would become an attraction for families seeking engaging, holistic experiences for their children.

The upcoming 3,308 sq. ft. Romp n' Roll location at 24310 Hwy 290 in Cypress Marketplace, anchored by H-E-B and At Home at Barker Cypress and Highway 290, is designed to enrich the lives of young children. The center will offer programs like play-based gym activities, dance, music, arts, and crafts. These programs aim to foster physical development, creativity, and social skills in children, adding depth to their formative years.

Michael and Babz Barnett began their journey with Romp n' Roll inspired by their young children, Zachary and Emma. They were dissatisfied with the options available for children's gyms and play centers at the time and sought to create a unique environment that would cater also to the parents or guardians of the children. After expanding widely in China to over 300 locations, Romp n' Roll has 11 locations across the United States, with 8 currently in development.

Romp n' Roll differs from traditional play centers by offering a vibrant community where parents and caregivers can find solace, support, and friendship. It’s a place where grown-ups can learn about their children, bond with them, and with each other, fostering connections that strengthen families and neighborhoods.

The experienced instructors at Romp n' Roll are more than just teachers. They are mentors who cultivate a lively and loving atmosphere, fostering a space that nurtures curiosity. The play-center embodies a symphony of experiences from art, music, and imaginative play, all blending together to fuel creativity and exploration in a fun and joyful environment.

Romp n' Roll is as much a place for socialization as it is for education. It encourages friendships, teamwork, and independence, laying the groundwork for lifelong social skills, while fostering a love for learning that lasts a lifetime.

According to TDLR, construction of the Cypress location will begin in November 2024, and is slated for completion by February 2025.
