Rivian Expands Houston Presence with New Service Center Near Spring
Rivian, the innovative American electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, is expanding its service presence in Texas with a newly announced service center near Spring. Located at 14920 North Freeway, Suite 100, Houston, TX 77090, the future Rivian Houston Service Center will bring vital support infrastructure to the company's growing customer base in the Greater Houston area.
Set within the Airtex Industrial Center II, the 32,053-square-foot project involves the renovation of the former location of Bass Pro Shops Boating Center. Construction is expected to begin in late June 2025, with completion anticipated by mid-August 2026 at an estimated cost of $480,000, according to an official permit filing.
Who Is Rivian? A Look at the Electric Vehicle Maker’s Rise
Founded in 2009 by CEO RJ Scaringe, Rivian set out to revolutionize the electric vehicle market by focusing on adventure-ready, utility-driven EVs. Unlike many competitors, Rivian's vehicles are engineered for off-road capability and durability, offering features like high ground clearance, rugged four-wheel-drive systems, and customizable camp modes.
Rivian currently manufactures two flagship models:
- R1T: An all-electric pickup truck featuring up to 400 miles of range, cutting-edge technology, and strong towing capacity.
- R1S: A spacious all-electric SUV designed for families and adventure seekers alike, offering luxury features with a rugged build.
Both models distinguish Rivian from traditional electric car makers like Tesla by emphasizing outdoor exploration, durability, and lifestyle integration — a brand identity that resonates with outdoor enthusiasts and tech-forward consumers alike.
In terms of sales, Rivian is becoming an increasingly serious player. The company delivered approximately 50,122 vehicles in 2023, marking a significant increase over 2022 and establishing itself as a top competitor among newer EV brands.

Strengthening Rivian’s Service Network in Texas
The announcement of the Houston location follows news of Rivian’s upcoming service center in Katy, located at 21021 Canpanile Drive. The Katy facility adds further support for Rivian owners across West Houston and surrounding areas.
By opening multiple service centers, Rivian is tackling a key challenge faced by EV manufacturers: ensuring convenient, high-quality maintenance and repair options for customers. Expanded service infrastructure also plays a major role in enhancing buyer confidence, particularly as Rivian continues its ambitious expansion plans.
Why the Houston Area?
Houston’s strong automotive market, proximity to affluent suburban communities like Spring and The Woodlands, and growing adoption of electric vehicles make it a strategic choice for Rivian’s service network. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, Texas is among the fastest-growing states for EV ownership, with nearly 200,000 registered electric vehicles as of early 2025 — and Greater Houston accounts for a substantial share of that growth.
By investing in Houston-area service centers, Rivian is positioning itself to better serve a rapidly expanding customer base while also competing head-to-head with established players like Tesla, Ford, and General Motors in the EV space.
Rivian’s Future in Texas and Beyond
The addition of the Houston Service Center at Airtex Industrial Center II signals Rivian’s long-term commitment to the Texas market — one of the most critical EV battlegrounds in the United States. With both the Spring-area and Katy locations slated to be operational within the next year, Rivian owners will soon enjoy better access to maintenance, repairs, and customer support.
As Rivian continues to ramp up production and expand its vehicle lineup, including anticipated models like the R2 series, its expanding service network will be a crucial component of its success.
For residents of Houston, Spring, Katy, and surrounding communities, these developments mean more choices, better service accessibility, and a new era of electric adventure vehicles built for real-world performance.
