Even when October in Houston feels suspiciously like July, a field of pumpkins has a way of changing the mood. Children inspect every stem and wobble; parents find the annual porch pumpkin; and families pause long enough to take the kind of photograph that becomes more valuable with every passing fall.

Pumpkin patches are also unusually good neighborhood gathering places. Some support churches or nonprofits, others keep local farms in business, and one-day community events give families a low-cost way to meet the people and organizations around them. Here are the Cypress, Cy-Fair, West Houston and Northwest Houston patches to know for fall 2026.

Cypress Methodist Church Pumpkin Patch — Cypress

• Dates: Oct. 2–31, 2026; open daily from 10 a.m.–7 p.m.
• Location: 13403 Cypress North Houston Rd, Cypress, TX 77429

The Cypress Methodist Church Pumpkin Patch is one of the area’s most familiar church-lawn traditions. The 2026 patch will be open daily from 10 a.m.–7 p.m. Oct. 2–31, giving families nearly the entire month to stop by for pumpkins and fall photos. In 2025, the patch celebrated its 17th year, offering pumpkins, pumpkin bread, crafts, games and photo opportunities.

The draw is its simplicity: families can stop after school, choose carving and decorating pumpkins, and take seasonal pictures without committing an entire day. Check the patch’s page for any weather-related updates or special activities during the season.

Good Shepherd Church Pumpkin Patch — Cypress

• Location: 20155 Cypresswood Dr, Cypress, TX 77433

Good Shepherd Church has turned its Fairfield-area lawn into a pumpkin patch while directing proceeds to Boys and Girls Country, the northwest Harris County nonprofit that provides a home and support system for children and young adults. HALTER Pumpkin Patch — West Houston

HALTER’s patch is a fall fundraiser for HALTER Inc., a nonprofit known for therapeutic horsemanship and equine-assisted activities. The 2025 event was the organization’s 21st annual pumpkin patch and included pony rides, a petting zoo, games, pumpkin decorating and a maze.

HALTER has traditionally operated this as a limited-date event rather than a monthlong patch, so families should wait for the official 2026 announcement before choosing a weekend. When the dates arrive, it is a particularly meaningful option for visitors who want their fall outing to support an established local mission.

Cy-Fest at Lone Star College-CyFair — Cypress

• Date: Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.
• Location: Lone Star College-CyFair, 9191 Barker Cypress Rd, Cypress, TX 77433
• Admission: Free

Cy-Fest 2026 is a one-day community festival with a pumpkin patch for fall photos, rather than a retail farm where families spend the afternoon choosing pumpkins. The 19th annual celebration will also bring a STEAM Zone, bounce houses, arts activities, live entertainment, community organizations and food trucks to campus.

The festival began in 2005 as a gift from the college to the community. That history—and free admission—makes it an easy choice for families who want a neighborhood-scale outing with something for several age groups.

Oil Ranch Fall Festival — Hockley

• Dates: Oct. 2–Nov. 21, 2026; Fridays and Saturdays, plus Sundays in October
• Location: 23501 Macedonia Rd, Hockley, TX 77447

For families who want a full farm day, Oil Ranch pairs its pumpkin patch and fall photo settings with train and hay rides, farm animals, pony rides, fishing, mini golf and other ranch activities. During October, each admitted child age 12 or younger receives one pumpkin, according to the ranch.

Oil Ranch sits about 30 miles northwest of Houston and has the space—and activity list—to keep children moving for hours. The published 2026 schedule lists 10 a.m.–2 p.m. Fridays, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Saturdays, and noon–5 p.m. Sundays in October. Confirm the calendar and ticket terms before visiting, particularly for field-trip weekdays.

Make the Most of a Cypress-Area Pumpkin Patch Visit

Houston fall weather rewards a little planning. Go near opening time for softer light, cooler temperatures and fewer people in the background of family photos. Bring water, sunscreen and closed-toe shoes for farms; after rain, a stroller with larger wheels or a wagon is usually easier on grass and dirt.

Give children a small mission: find the funniest stem, pick a pumpkin all on their own, choose a pumpkin they can carry, or photograph five different colors and shapes. At home, write the chooser’s name and the year on the bottom before carving or displaying it. That tiny ritual turns a purchase into a family timeline.

Patch schedules can change because of pumpkin supply, weather and volunteer staffing. Check each organizer’s current page on the day of the visit, especially for the entries whose 2026 dates have not yet been announced.
