Prestonwood Forest's 46th Annual 'Nite of Lites' to Brighten the Holidays in Northwest Houston

December 09 2024

Prestonwood Forest, a well-established residential community in northwest Houston, is gearing up for its 46th Annual 'Nite of Lites' event, which will run from December 14 through 31, 2024. This beloved neighborhood tradition, which has become a nationally recognized holiday highlight for both locals and visitors, offers a spectacular display of lights, decorations, and festive spirit.

A Community Tradition

The 'Nite of Lites' is a long-standing event that attracts thousands of visitors each year, drawn by the neighborhood’s elaborately decorated homes. Residents take great pride in transforming their houses with creative themes, and a team of guest judges is brought in to evaluate entries across multiple categories. Awards are given for "Best Mailbox," "Best Themed Street," "Best Front Door," and "Best Overall Display," among others. The competition fosters a sense of community pride and festive spirit, with the neighborhood known for its friendly competition and welcoming atmosphere.

The event officially kicks off on Saturday, December 14, when judging will take place, but the fun lasts through the end of the month. Residents and visitors alike are invited to take photos of their favorite homes and share them with the community by emailing them to yourphotos@prestonwoodforestonline.com to be included in the official Nite of Lites Photo Gallery.

Tips for Enjoying the Display

If you plan to visit Prestonwood Forest during the event, there are a few tips to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience:

  • Only make right turns when entering the neighborhood. This helps manage traffic flow and allows you to see every street without causing congestion.
  • The neighborhood has three entrances: Schroeder, Cypresswood, and 249.
  • Be cautious while driving, as many families stop to take pictures or read themed street signs. Keep an eye out for pedestrians and parked cars.
  • Dress warmly, wear your Christmas jammies, and bring some hot chocolate to add to the festive atmosphere.
  • While the event is busiest on Friday and Saturday nights, the weeknights are typically quieter, with Christmas Eve and Christmas Day being especially crowded.
  • Respect the neighborhood, including designated turnarounds, to avoid disruptions for residents.
