PJ's for a Good Cause: Constable Ted Heap's Victims Assistance Unit Delivers PJ's to Women and Children in Need
This week, Constable Ted Heap's Victims Assistance Unit this week distributed hundreds of pajamas and other essential clothing items collected for women and children late last year. The pajamas were donated by residents and businesses in Precinct 5 as part of Constable Heap's countywide pajama drive during Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Daya Houston, The Children's Assessment Center - Houston-Harris County, Katy Christian Ministries/KCM, Fort Bend Women's Center, and Montgomery County Women's Center are among the many agencies which will provide these pajamas to women and children who are escaping abusive situations.
About Constable Ted Heap's Victims Assistance Unit
The goal of the Victim Assistance Unit of the Harris County Pct. 5 Constable's Office is to assist victims and their loved ones following a violent crime. The Victim Liaisons provide direct assistance to crime victims through advocacy, support, education and outreach. The VAU attempts to mitigate the effects of the incident, decrease secondary victimization, increase involvement and cooperation of victims and witnesses in the criminal justice system, and assist in moving from a victim to a survivor. Many victims wonder what comes next after a crime. Services provided include crisis intervention, information on victims' rights, criminal justice support and much more.
