Pine Mill Ranch Rays Swim Team 2025 Registration Now Open for New & Returning Swimmers
The Pine Mill Ranch Rays Swim Team (PMR Rays) is excited to welcome new and returning swimmers for the 2025 summer swim season. As a competitive, community-driven team in Pine Mill Ranch in Katy, the Rays offer young swimmers ages 4-18 an opportunity to enhance their swimming skills, participate in competitive meets, and build lifelong friendships.
Tryout Information for New Swimmers
All new swimmers, including siblings of 2024 team members, must complete a tryout to join the team. Tryouts will be held at Texas Swim Academy's indoor pool (located at 3514 Greenbusch Road) on the following dates:

Saturday, February 1: 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM

Saturday, February 22: 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM
Parents must sign up for a tryout time slot at Signup Genius.
Tryout Requirements
Swimmers must meet the following qualifications based on their age group:

Ages 4-6: Swim one pool length unassisted (any style).

Ages 7-8: Swim one length without assistance or floating on back; must know backstroke.

Ages 9-10: Swim one length confidently using freestyle and backstroke; must have knowledge of butterfly or breaststroke.

Ages 11-18: Swim one length confidently using freestyle and backstroke; must know butterfly or breaststroke.
While coaches will teach strokes, turns, and dives, PMR Rays is not a learn-to-swim program. Swimmers should already be comfortable in the water. For those needing additional preparation, Texas Swim Academy (phone number is 832-437-6186) offers lessons aligned with team expectations.

2025 Team Registration Details
Registration includes 8 weeks of swim instruction/coaching, a team t-shirt, a team swim cap, insurance, and end-of-year awards.
Registration Fees

Ages 4-14: $170 per swimmer

Ages 15-18: $60 per swimmer
Registration Opens Based on Priority
- February 14 - February 22: Returning 2024 PMR Rays swimmers in good standing
- February 23 - March 8: Pine Mill Ranch residents who passed tryouts
- March 9 - March 31: Non-PMR residents who passed tryouts (pending availability)
Priority is given to Pine Mill Ranch residents, followed by residents of Pine Mill Avalon, Cardiff Ranch, Hawks Landing, Churchill Farms, and Westheimer Lakes. Those from neighborhoods with existing swim teams (e.g., Silver Ranch, Cinco Ranch, Cross Creek Ranch, Tamarron, and Firethorne) will be placed on a waitlist.
Practice & Competition Schedule
The team practices daily from Monday to Friday:

May: Afternoon practices after school

June: Morning practices before 10:00 AM
Meets & Competitions
The PMR Rays typically participate in:

Practice meet/time trials

4-5 regular season dual meets in June

Division-level Meet of Champions (for top swimmers)

All-Stars Meet (for the best swimmers in the league)
Required Parent Involvement & Swim Meet Expectations
The PMR Rays Swim Team operates as a non-profit, self-funded through registration, sponsorships, and fundraising. To ensure a successful season, parents are required to:

Volunteer for shifts (3 shifts for the first child, 2 shifts for additional children)

Ensure swimmers participate in at least 2 dual meets

Read the Team Handbook before committing to registration

Swim Suit & Equipment Requirements
Team swimsuits are mandatory for all dual swim meets and team pictures on May 13. Swimmers can purchase their suits at D&J Sports (617 S. Mason Rd.):

About the Pine Mill Ranch Rays Swim Team
Founded in 2012, the Pine Mill Ranch Rays promote competitive swimming, community involvement, and a lifelong love for the sport. The team is led by 6-10 certified coaches, supported by junior high and high school volunteers, and overseen by a board of parent volunteers.
The Rays compete in Division 1 or 2 of the West Houston Aquatic League (WHALe League), which consists of 32 teams and over 5,000 swimmers, making it the largest sporting league in Katy.
