October Yard of the Month in Hearthstone Celebrates Shade, Texture, and Tranquility

October 13 2025

At 7615 Mauna Kai, the peaceful rhythm of fall is in full bloom, thanks to the latest recipient of the Hearthstone Garden Club’s October Yard of the Month. Even in the homeowner’s absence, the yard's beauty quietly speaks for itself — a living canvas of color, form, and thoughtful design.

Beneath the shade of two majestic oak trees, a tiered garden display welcomes neighbors and passersby with open arms. At the base, vibrant pentas in multiple hues offer a continuous burst of color. Behind them, lush loropetalum and sculpted ligustrum create depth and dimension, drawing the eye toward the home’s entryway.

Carol Boyd with the Hearthstone Garden Club shared the news, noting the meticulous attention to balance and harmony in the landscape. “It’s a yard that truly invites you in,” she said.

As the driveway curves toward the house, whimsical accents — from bunnies to frogs — guide visitors past neatly arranged planters brimming with foxtail ferns. Near the front door, regal crowns of thorns make a bold statement, while just around the bend, pockets of mandevilla and coleus provide seasonal contrast.

A cozy white bench and an inviting patio setup sit tucked beneath the trees, offering a shaded retreat that feels like a quiet escape from Houston’s autumn heat. To the right of the home, container pots overflow with golden Esperanza and blooming crepe myrtle, adding height and visual drama.

The yard belongs to Judy, Charlie, and Kirk Massey — longtime residents whose outdoor space reflects the care and pride they bring to their home and community.

For Hearthstone residents, the Yard of the Month program isn’t just about flowers — it’s about fostering beauty, sustainability, and neighborly pride. The Hearthstone Garden Club continues to recognize and celebrate these local efforts, one yard at a time.
