New Harris Votes App Helps Residents Prepare as October 5 Registration Deadline Nears

Anniston  /
October 02 2026

Getting ready to vote often means answering several questions before ever reaching a polling place: Is my registration current? What will be on my ballot? Where can I go, and when? Harris County voters now have another way to pull those answers together—with an important deadline just days away.

The Harris County Clerk’s Office Elections Department launched the free Harris Votes mobile app October 2 for iOS and Android devices. It brings registration lookup, sample ballots, vote center information and election reminders into one place, with support for English, Spanish, Vietnamese and Chinese.

The timing matters. Monday, October 5, is the last day to register to vote for the November 3, 2026 election. Residents who are unsure of their status can use the lookup to check it, then follow the Harris County voter registrar’s instructions if they need to register or update their information. Downloading the app itself does not register someone to vote.

A Place to Start Before Heading to the Polls

“We know voters want election information that is easy to access,” Harris County Clerk Teneshia Hudspeth said. “The Harris Votes app brings several of those resources together in one place, giving voters another convenient way to prepare for Election Day.”

Looking over a sample ballot ahead of time gives voters a chance to see the offices and measures they will encounter and make time for any additional research. The app also offers notifications and reminders, giving residents a way to keep key dates in view as school, work and family calendars fill up.

The official Harris Votes app page is the starting point for download information. The same election resources remain available through HarrisVotes.com for residents who prefer a browser.

Dates to Put on the Calendar

Early voting runs October 19–30. Harris County’s posted schedule is 7 a.m.–7 p.m. October 19–24, noon–7 p.m. Sunday, October 25, and 7 a.m.–7 p.m. October 26–30. Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

For eligible voters planning to vote by mail, the application must be received by October 23; a postmark alone does not meet that deadline. The Texas Secretary of State’s election calendar provides the statewide deadlines.

A few minutes spent checking registration now can help residents address a problem while there is still time. With the October 5 deadline approaching, that is the first date to act on.
