Mother-Daughter Team in Katy Spreading Positivity and Hope Through Handwritten Notes
In Katy, a mother-daughter duo is uplifting the spirits of elementary school students with handwritten notes of encouragement and affirmation through their nonprofit, Post It Love.
Jelita and Kelsey Bridgeforth, the founder and CEO, and her daughter Kelsey, Co-Founder and Director of Communications, established Post It Love to promote emotional well-being and boost academic success among 2nd to 5th graders. The organization aims to help every student feel valued, supported, and empowered to boldly pursue their dreams.
The idea for Post It Love was born on Valentine’s Day 2024, inspired by a simple act of love - a lunchbox note - that the Bridgeforths believe holds magical power to brighten a child's day and remind them of their worth. Fueled by love, respect, and a sense of belonging, Post It Love hopes to create a future where all children, regardless of background, can thrive.
This simple yet profound initiative is more crucial now than ever, considering the recent CDC data showing a 16% increase in mental health diagnoses among children aged 6 to 11. Post It Love addresses this crisis through their program that has been shown to reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression by up to 30% in underserved schools. Not only has their work improved mental health, but it has also led to a 22% increase in academic performance.

Every note in the Post It Love initiative is handwritten on a decorated, halved index card, mailed to the organization's address, and then distributed to schools in Alief, Aldine, Katy, and Houston ISDs within about five business days. The process is transparent, authentic, and shows how small acts of kindness can make a significant difference.
The Katy community is invited to get involved, both through mail submissions and in-person participation. Post It Love organizes an in-person volunteer event every Tuesday at The Ballard House, located at 21421 Cinco Park Rd, Katy, TX 77450. Volunteers can participate in sorting, stamping, and packaging notes for safe delivery to schools. Post It Love hopes to distribute over 82,000 notes to 12 selected elementary schools in the area, and they are welcoming both individuals and groups to join their noble cause.
Supporting the advancement of this noble endeavor could never be easier. To participate, simply visit www.postitlove.com/ballard-house, choose a Tuesday that works for you or your group, and register for free. Every note, every hour volunteered, brings this community effort one step closer to reaching more students and spreading positivity throughout the community.
