Mission Bend Library Brings Big Screen Fun to Families This July with Free Summer Movie Series

June 23 2025

The Mission Bend Branch Library is rolling out the red carpet for families this summer with its “Summer Blockbuster Bash” — a free movie series that promises cool entertainment for kids of all ages every Friday in July. Hosted by the Youth Services department at Fort Bend County Libraries, the films begin at 2:00 p.m. in the library’s Meeting Room at 8421 Addicks Clodine Road, offering a fun and air-conditioned afternoon outing for the community.

Though licensing restrictions prevent the library from advertising movie titles publicly, each animated feature is a widely beloved favorite that has captivated audiences across generations. The lineup includes two family-friendly classics that pack heart, humor, and high-tech adventure.

On July 11, moviegoers can expect an animated comedy-adventure from Disney Animation Studios, originally released in 2014 and adapted from a popular Marvel Comics series. Set in the futuristic city of San Fransokyo, the story follows young robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada and his lovable inflatable companion, Baymax, as they team up with friends to stop a criminal plot. This film is rated PG and delivers action, laughs, and a powerful message about healing and friendship.

On July 25, the screen lights up again with a hilarious animated tale about a would-be supervillain, voiced by Steve Carell, whose plan to steal the moon is unexpectedly derailed by the unconditional love of three spirited orphaned girls. As their bond grows, the evil mastermind starts to discover that he might just have a soft spot after all. This PG-rated favorite is known for its charm, laugh-out-loud moments, and an army of yellow, banana-loving minions that have become pop culture icons.

This movie series is part of Fort Bend County Libraries’ broader mission to offer enriching and inclusive programming that supports literacy, family engagement, and summertime learning. With the “Summer Blockbuster Bash,” the Mission Bend Branch Library invites families in Mission Bend, Alief, and Southwest Houston to experience the joy of storytelling on the big screen — without leaving the neighborhood or spending a dime.
