Medina Valley ISD Invites Parents and Community to Help Shape the District’s Next Superintendent

Medina Valley ISD Invites Parents and Community to Help Shape the District’s Next Superintendent

February 06 2026

As Medina Valley Independent School District enters a pivotal moment of transition, district leaders are turning to the people who know the community best. MVISD Trustees are inviting parents, staff, and community members to share their input as the search begins for the district’s next superintendent.

The Board of Trustees has opened a confidential, anonymous community survey designed to help guide the superintendent search process. Responses will be reviewed by an independent consultant, who will compile common themes and priorities to help shape the leadership profile and interview questions used during the hiring process. Individual responses will not be shared with the board, ensuring honesty and transparency throughout the process. The survey can be accessed here

This community engagement effort follows the recent announcement that Superintendent Dr. Scott Caloss will retire effective June 30, 2026, closing out a distinguished 34-year career in public education. In a letter to families and staff earlier this year, Dr. Caloss reflected on his time in Medina Valley ISD, writing, “It has been an honor to serve as Superintendent of Medina Valley Independent School District and to work alongside such hardworking, dedicated educators and staff members. Together, we have faced challenges, celebrated successes, and continuously worked to improve opportunities for the students we serve.”

Dr. Caloss joined MVISD in 2022 and quickly became a steady presence during a period of rapid growth. Under his leadership, the district passed two major bond elections in 2023 and 2024, supporting new schools, infrastructure improvements, and enhanced campus safety. During this time, MVISD celebrated the opening of Silos Elementary, broke ground on Creek View High School—set to open in Fall 2026—and began construction on Middle School #3, expected to open in Fall 2027.

Beyond facilities, Dr. Caloss emphasized safety and connection. His administration established the district’s own Police Department to better serve campuses and families, and launched bilingual hub campuses to strengthen support for English language learners and foster stronger family engagement. In 2025, MVISD’s efforts were recognized statewide when the district was named a finalist for the H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards.

Reflecting on his career and the district’s future, Dr. Caloss shared, “As I prepare to enter this next chapter of my life, I extend my sincere gratitude to the Board of Trustees, faculty, staff, students, and the entire Medina Valley ISD community for your trust, support, and partnership.” He added, “I am confident the district is well positioned for continued growth and success, and I look forward to watching Medina Valley ISD thrive in the years ahead.”

Now, as the district looks forward, trustees say community input is essential to finding a leader who will build on that foundation. The superintendent search survey gives families, educators, and residents a meaningful opportunity to share what qualities, values, and priorities matter most for MVISD’s next chapter.

For a fast-growing district like Medina Valley ISD, the superintendent selection is more than an administrative decision—it’s a community decision. District leaders encourage all stakeholders to take a few moments to participate and help shape the future of MVISD schools and students.
