Mayor Dusty Thiele Issues Proclamation to City of Katy Parks Department for Parks and Recreation Month
On Tuesday, July 16th, Mayor Dusty Thiele, Mayor Pro Tem Chris Harris, and Councilmember Janet Corte made a special trip out to the City of Katy Parks Department to read and present them with a proclamation, along with spending some time at the City's Arboretum Outdoor Play Area.
July is celebrated as Parks and Recreation Month, and July 19th specifically honors Park and Recreation Professionals Day. This year's theme, "Where You Belong," highlights the vital role these professionals play in fostering a sense of community and belonging through their dedicated work.
Park and recreation professionals are crucial in enhancing the quality of life in our communities. They manage and maintain parks, organize recreational programs, and ensure that these spaces are safe, accessible, and enjoyable for everyone. Their efforts promote physical health, mental well-being, social interaction, and environmental stewardship.
In the City of Katy, the contributions of park and recreation professionals are especially significant. They create and maintain beautiful parks like our all-ability inclusive Katy City Park and Thomas Park, which serve as hubs for community activities and events. These spaces provide residents with opportunities for exercise, relaxation, and socializing, fostering a strong sense of community. Through sports leagues, fitness classes, cultural events, and educational programs, they ensure that there is something for everyone, reinforcing the theme "Where You Belong."
Our museums, connected to the Parks Department, are also must-see attractions in the area. The MKT Railroad Depot, VFW Museum, and the Johnny Nelson Katy Heritage Museum and Historic Homes showcase Katy's rich history, thanks to the museum coordinator's fantastic efforts. The coordinator is always willing to give tours and share insights about our heritage.
By celebrating Parks and Recreation Month and Park and Recreation Professionals Day, we recognize and appreciate the hard work and dedication of these professionals who make our communities vibrant, inclusive, and welcoming.
