Maverick Theatre Company at Morton Ranch High School Presents 'Sister Act'
The Maverick Theatre Company at Morton Ranch High School is bringing the feel-good musical comedy Sister Act to life on stage. Performances will take place at the Morton Ranch High School Performing Arts Center on January 31, February 1, and February 3, 2025, all beginning at 7:00 PM.
Based on the beloved 1992 film, Sister Act is a heartwarming and hilarious story about Deloris Van Cartier, a disco diva who finds herself in an unexpected place: a convent. After witnessing a crime, Deloris is placed in protective custody, where she must disguise herself as a nun. Initially clashing with the strict lifestyle and the convent’s no-nonsense Mother Superior, Deloris discovers her place among the sisters by transforming their struggling choir into a powerhouse of soulful gospel music. But as Deloris inspires the nuns and their community, her identity is uncovered, leading to a thrilling and touching conclusion that celebrates friendship, unity, and the power of music.
The production features original music by Alan Menken, the acclaimed composer behind Newsies, Beauty and the Beast, and Little Shop of Horrors. Nominated for five Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Sister Act promises a night of uplifting gospel songs, vibrant dance numbers, and an unforgettable story of sisterhood and self-discovery.
