Major Road Closure on FM 1463 in Fort Bend County as TxDOT Widening Project Continues

March 13 2025

A major road closure is set to impact traffic in Fort Bend County this weekend as the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) continues work on the FM 1463 widening project. Beginning Friday, March 14, at 9:00 PM, FM 1463 will be completely closed between S. Fry Road and FM 1093, with reopening scheduled for Monday, March 17, at 5:00 AM. The closure is part of a $108.36 million effort to expand FM 1463 from a two-lane road to a four-lane divided roadway to accommodate increasing traffic demands in the Katy and Fulshear areas.

Alternate Routes for Drivers

Motorists are advised to use the following detour routes during the closure:

  • Southbound traffic on FM 1463 should take S. Fry Road east to Spring Green Boulevard.

  • Northbound traffic on FM 359 should use FM 1093 east to Spring Green Boulevard to continue north.

Despite the closure, businesses on the west side of FM 1463 will remain accessible. To reach these establishments, drivers can:

  • Travel west on S. Fry Road to Flewellen Oaks

  • Turn left on Flewellen Way

  • Follow the road past the Caleb Rule Public Safety Facility to access the strip center

FM 1463 Widening Project: What to Expect

The FM 1463 expansion is one of the largest infrastructure projects in Fort Bend County, designed to enhance traffic flow and pedestrian accessibility. Key features of the project include:

  • Expanding FM 1463 to a four-lane divided roadway

  • Adding sidewalks on both sides to improve pedestrian safety

  • Upgrading drainage and traffic signals for better road efficiency

According to TxDOT, the FM 1463 widening project began in February 2022 and is expected to be completed by early 2027.

Impact on Katy and Fulshear Residents

With rapid population growth in the Katy and Fulshear areas, traffic congestion along FM 1463 has increased significantly. The widening project aims to provide long-term congestion relief, supporting local commuters, businesses, and future development.

For up-to-date information on road closures and traffic conditions, drivers can visit the Houston TranStar website at traffic.houstontranstar.org.

As work continues on the FM 1463 expansion, commuters should plan ahead, follow detour signs, and stay informed about future road closures. This temporary inconvenience will ultimately lead to a safer and more efficient roadwayfor Fort Bend County residents.
