Magnolia Lagoon to Bring Crystal-Clear Waters and Beachfront Fun to Waller County Near Cypress
A sprawling new water attraction, Magnolia Lagoon, has officially broken ground, bringing the turquoise waters of a 4-acre Crystal Lagoon to Magnolia, Texas, northwest of Houston and a quick 35-minute drive from Cypress. The lagoon will be a public-access destination designed for swimming, water sports, and leisure, with plans to open for swimming in May 2026.
Privately funded and developed on a 40-acre site owned by Land Tejas at 200 Strawberry Spring Drive, Magnolia Lagoon is the latest project by Houston-based Lagoon Development Company in partnership with Crystal Lagoons U.S. Corp. The nearly $30 million development will feature four white-sand beaches, a tropical swim-up bar, and a floating obstacle course, alongside paddle boating, kayaking, and sailing through the National Sailing Club.
The development marks the sixth Crystal Lagoon in the Houston metropolitan area and the second fully public lagoon-based entertainment district created by Lagoon Development Company, following Angel Lagoon in Dayton, which opened in 2024. These public-access lagoons—also known as PAL™ (Public Access Lagoon) developments—offer resort-style amenities in inland locations, drawing day visitors, tourists, and local families.

“Our mission is to bring the beach to the suburbs,” said Uri Man, CEO of Lagoon Development Company. “The experience of crystalline waters, white sandy beaches, and numerous activities in a PAL™ development is what attracts people from far and wide and what makes it a truly successful destination.”
Future phases of the mixed-use entertainment district include proposals for an outdoor amphitheater, luxury apartments, resort-style hotels, and waterfront restaurants—all designed to integrate seamlessly around the vibrant centerpiece of the lagoon.
Eco-conscious infrastructure will play a key role in the project. Magnolia Lagoon is poised to potentially become one of the first in Texas to implement Eco-Heated Lagoon technology. This system repurposes waste heat from adjacent data centers to warm certain zones of the lagoon to temperatures between 98.6°F and 100.4°F, enabling year-round use while simultaneously reducing energy consumption.
The lagoon will use Crystal Lagoons' patented water filtration and disinfection technology that creates swimmable, turquoise-colored water while minimizing chemical and energy usage. The technology’s low-energy system and pulse-based disinfection process contribute to its environmental efficiency.
Lagoon Development Company has a strong track record of delivering lagoon-based destinations across Texas, including:
-
Balmoral Lagoon (Humble, TX): The first swimmable Crystal Lagoon in Texas.
-
Lago Mar (Texas City, TX): The largest Crystal Lagoon in the U.S. at 12 acres.
-
Angel Lagoon (Dayton, TX): A 6-acre public-access lagoon that anchors future entertainment expansion.
“These joint ventures allow us to expand our PAL™ projects into strategic areas,” said Iván Manzur, Senior VP of Sales at Crystal Lagoons US Corp., “and with them, Crystal Lagoons will total more than 70 projects in different stages of development and negotiation in Texas.”
