Lytle Primary School Invites Community Inside New Bond-Funded Addition at Sept. 24 Open House

For families who have watched the dirt move, walls rise and construction crews transform the Lytle Primary School campus, the finished project is about to become much more real.

Lytle ISD is inviting parents, students and community members to tour the new Lytle Primary School addition from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, giving residents an opportunity to see how the district's 2024 bond investment has changed the campus.

The open house will begin with a gathering and remarks in the school cafeteria, followed by tours of the new facilities.

For the Lytle community, the evening is more than a chance to walk through a new building. It is also a first-hand look at classrooms, student spaces and campus improvements made possible by a bond package approved by local voters in May 2024. Lytle ISD has previously said the $20.6 million bond was designed to address current campus needs while preparing the district for future growth.

What Is New at Lytle Primary School?

The addition brings several major changes to a campus serving some of Lytle ISD's youngest students.

According to the district's open house announcement, the completed improvements include 16 new classrooms, expanded Special Education spaces with dedicated restrooms and a laundry room, and a dedicated gym with an electronic scoreboard, adjustable basketball goals and a climbing wall.

Families will also be able to see an upgraded Pirate-themed playground, a new bus loop and an additional parking lot.

Those improvements build on work Lytle ISD has been documenting throughout the construction process. In January, the district reported that roof joists were going up on the new Primary School gym while sprinkler piping, ductwork, electrical systems and plumbing were being installed across bond projects.

At the time, students were getting their own unusual view of the construction. Marksmen Construction had installed porthole-style viewing windows in a wall of the existing Primary School so children could watch crews work on the expansion as it took shape.

Now, those students and their families will be able to step inside the spaces they watched being built.

Part of a Larger Lytle ISD Bond Investment

Lytle voters approved the district's $20.6 million bond in May 2024. In addition to the Primary School expansion, the package included campus parking improvements, a new gym, playground work and upgrades to the district's transportation and maintenance facilities.

The district has spent the past two years providing construction updates and inviting residents to follow the projects as they progressed. In 2025, Lytle ISD hosted a community bond update night specifically to explain the Primary School expansion, elementary playground improvements and transportation facility work.

That community connection has been visible elsewhere in the bond program as well. Earlier this year, Lytle Elementary celebrated the opening of a new playground that was also funded through the 2024 bond. The project gained special meaning after a student's letter helped draw attention to the need for updated playground equipment.

What Families Need to Know About the Sept. 24 Open House

The Lytle Primary School Open House and Tours will take place:

The evening will begin with a gathering and remarks in the cafeteria before visitors are invited to tour the new addition.

For parents, the event offers a chance to see where students will learn, play and gather. For residents who supported the bond, it provides something equally tangible: an opportunity to walk through one of the projects their community investment helped build.

As Lytle continues to grow, the expanded Primary School campus represents another visible step in how the district is preparing for the students and families it serves now and in the years ahead.
