Lytle Lady Pirates Volleyball Celebrates Back-to-Back District Wins, Strengthening Playoff Hopes
The Lytle High School Lady Pirates volleyball team is making a strong push toward the postseason, and two recent district victories have given players, coaches and fans plenty to celebrate. With the playoff race tightening, every match matters, and the Lady Pirates are proving they are ready to compete.
Lytle's varsity volleyball team defeated Crystal City on October 2, 2026, in three sets, followed by a hard-fought four-set victory over Cotulla on October 6. The back-to-back wins have moved the Lady Pirates into a tie with Hondo for third place in the district standings, keeping their playoff hopes alive.
For the Lytle community, these victories represent more than two marks in the win column. They reflect the determination of student-athletes working together toward a shared goal, with an opportunity to extend their season still within reach.
Lady Pirates Deliver Strong Performances Against Crystal City and Cotulla
The Lady Pirates opened their successful stretch with a three-set sweep of Crystal City on October 2.
Emma Fernandez and Lillian Evans led the offensive attack with 10 kills apiece, while Madison Hernandez contributed three service aces. Payton Devaney and Macey Ford provided key defensive contributions at the net with blocks.
Julie Massiate played an important role on both sides of the ball, recording 12 digs and 22 assists to help keep the offense moving.
Four days later, Lytle faced Cotulla in another important district matchup, securing a victory in four sets.
Fernandez delivered another strong offensive performance with 17 kills, while Hernandez added 11 kills. Lila Cortinas contributed two aces and 25 assists, and Evans recorded four blocks.
Defensively, Loundyn Perez led with 18 digs, followed by Priscilla Martinez with 14. Massiate continued to help direct the offense, finishing with 21 assists.
Together, those performances helped the Lady Pirates secure two victories at a critical point in their district schedule.
Lytle Volleyball Playoff Race Remains Close
With Lytle now tied with Hondo for third place, the race for a postseason berth remains competitive.
Lytle High School reported that the district standings included a three-way tie during this stretch, making every point particularly important as teams fight for playoff positioning.
The consecutive wins against Crystal City and Cotulla have helped the Lady Pirates remain in contention, but their postseason opportunity will depend on how the remaining district matches unfold.
For players who have spent the season practicing, competing and building chemistry, the coming games offer an opportunity to turn that work into a playoff appearance.
Lytle JV Volleyball Teams Add to the Winning Streak
The varsity squad was not alone in celebrating success.
Lytle's JV1 volleyball team also defeated Crystal City and Cotulla, winning both matches in two sets.
The JV2 Lady Pirates added another victory, defeating Cotulla in two sets. JV2 did not face Crystal City because the opposing school did not have a team available for that matchup.
The success across all three teams highlights the contributions of student-athletes throughout the Lytle High School volleyball program, including younger players continuing to develop their skills and gain valuable competitive experience.
