Lytle Junior High Earns TEA Social Studies Distinction, With Important Context for Families

Lytle Junior High Earns TEA Social Studies Distinction, With Important Context for Families

Rosewood Atascosa Estates  /
September 12 2026

Students and educators at Lytle Junior High School have another accomplishment to celebrate after the campus earned the Texas Education Agency’s Academic Achievement Distinction in Social Studies for the 2025-2026 school year.

For families in Rosewood Estates whose children attend Lytle Junior High, the recognition offers a closer look at how students are performing academically compared with students at similar schools across Texas.

What the Social Studies Distinction Means

The distinction is more selective than a general passing designation.

According to Lytle ISD, Lytle Junior High earned the honor by demonstrating strong student performance in Social Studies and ranking among the top 25% of its statewide campus comparison group based on the measures used for the distinction.

The Texas Education Agency uses comparison groups so schools are evaluated alongside campuses with similar characteristics. For middle and junior high schools, a campus must rank in the top quarter of its comparison group on at least half of the applicable indicators to earn an Academic Achievement distinction.

That distinction provides Rosewood Estates parents with some additional context beyond a single test score. It indicates that Lytle Junior High students performed particularly well in Social Studies when their campus was measured against comparable Texas schools.

Lytle Junior High Also Improves Overall State Rating

The recognition follows another encouraging development for the campus.

Lytle Junior High’s Texas accountability rating increased from a D with a score of 69 in 2025 to a C with a score of 73 in 2026, according to accountability information released by Lytle ISD.

Lytle High School also improved, moving from a C score of 75 to a C score of 78. The district’s overall rating, however, declined from a C to a D following a significant decrease at Lytle Elementary School. District leaders have said they are implementing additional academic support and improvement measures at the elementary campus.

Against that broader district picture, Lytle Junior High’s improvement and Social Studies distinction stand out as positive signs for families served by the campus.

Other Recent Recognition

This academic distinction is not the only recent recognition for Lytle Junior High.

In April, the school was once again named a Capturing Kids’ Hearts National Showcase School, a designation connected with efforts to build positive campus culture, student relationships and engagement. Lytle ISD has itself been recognized as a Capturing Kids’ Hearts Showcase District since 2024.

Together, the recognitions offer Rosewood Estates families two different snapshots of the campus: one focused on academic performance and another focused on the environment in which students learn.

For junior high students, those years can carry plenty of change as expectations increase and students begin preparing for high school. Academic gains at the campus they attend can therefore mean something quite personal for neighborhood families watching their children make that transition.

Lytle ISD credited the Social Studies accomplishment to the combined efforts of students, educators and families, calling the distinction a reflection of their continued commitment to academic growth.
