Lytle ISD Senior Giselle Esparza Earns Valero Alamo Bowl Student-Athlete Scholarship
A Lytle High School senior is being recognized on one of San Antonio’s biggest stages for her academic leadership, athletic achievement, and commitment to her school community.
Giselle Esparza of Lytle ISD has been selected as a recipient of the 2025 Valero Alamo Bowl Student-Athlete Scholarship, earning a $7,500 award as part of the program’s largest scholarship distribution in its 25-year history. The Valero Alamo Bowl awarded $765,000 to 102 graduating seniors this year, with at least one recipient selected from every qualifying public and private high school in the San Antonio area.
At Lytle High School, Esparza’s involvement spans athletics, leadership, and service. She is a regional powerlifter, a varsity track athlete, and a three-year class president. Her leadership roles include serving four years on student council as public relations officer, acting as historian for the National Honor Society, participating in the principal’s council, and leading the yearbook committee as president.

Esparza is also a three-year varsity softball athlete, earning both Rookie of the Year and Offensive MVP honors during her high school career. Her ability to balance competitive athletics with academic excellence and campus leadership reflects the core values of the Valero Alamo Bowl Student-Athlete Scholarship Program.
All scholarship recipients were honored at the H-E-B Scholarship Awards Luncheon on December 17 at the Security Service Federal Credit Union Event Center and will be recognized on the field during the first quarter of the Valero Alamo Bowl on December 30.
Since launching its scholarship program in 2000, the Valero Alamo Bowl has awarded more than $13.25 million to over 2,100 students, continuing its long-standing investment in San Antonio-area youth and their futures.
