Local Warming Centers Ready to Assist Houstonians

January 15 2024

As winter strikes and temperatures plunge, multiple warming centers are open and ready to receive residents in need of shelter during the Arctic blast.

Those seeking shelter from the cold in Harris County Precinct 4 are welcome at Bayland Community Center, 6400 Bissonnet Street, 77074, a designated warming center during the current freeze event. This location is primed to provide a warm and safe space for those in need.

In addition to Bayland Community Center, the Harris County Homeland Security and Emergency Management Office has issued a list of several other warming centers across the Houston Area.

Be weather aware while traveling on roadways, as freezing rain has been reported across the Greater Houston Area. Check traffic and roadway conditions at traffic.houstontranstar.org

In the event of an emergency, Harris County Precinct 4 is encouraging residents to contact the Precinct 4 Community Assistance Division at 832-927-4444, visit Ready Harris at readyharris.gov, or call the City of Houston Information line at 311

Also, if you see individuals who appear to be experiencing homelessness outside during the freeze, contact the Harris County Sheriff's Office Homeless Outreach Team (HOT) via HCSO dispatch at 713-221-6000 so that they can assist with resources. During this winter weather, we urge our community to stay safe, check on your neighbors, and use these resources as needed.
