TOMAGWA Reach Mobile Health Unit Brings Primary Care, OB/GYN and More Closer to Harris County Communities

Tomball / Magnolia
September 14 2026

For families who have ever postponed a doctor’s appointment because getting there was difficult, taking time off work was impossible or the cost felt out of reach, a new healthcare option is beginning to move closer to home. Tomball-based TOMAGWA HealthCare Ministries has officially launched TOMAGWA Reach, a fully equipped mobile health center designed to bring medical providers and essential services directly into neighborhoods across Greater Houston and Harris County.

TOMAGWA celebrated the mobile unit with an official ribbon cutting Sept. 11 at the George H. W. Bush Community Center in Spring, marking a significant expansion of an organization that has provided community healthcare since 1989. Reach takes that longtime mission beyond traditional clinic walls, with services that can include OB/GYN care, primary care, immunizations, senior care, chronic disease management, preventive screenings, lab services, physicals, health education and connections to ongoing medical care.

A Mobile Health Clinic Designed to Remove Everyday Barriers

TOMAGWA Reach is designed to bring healthcare directly into the neighborhoods and community spaces where people already spend their time.

The mobile unit is an extension of work TOMAGWA HealthCare Ministries has been doing in the Greater Houston area for more than three decades. Founded in 1989, the nonprofit, faith-based organization provides medical, dental, vision, laboratory, pharmacy and case management services to people with limited resources. TOMAGWA operates clinics in Tomball and the Champions area and works with community partners to provide preventive, chronic and more complex care for patients who may otherwise have difficulty accessing healthcare.

The mobile clinic can deploy to neighborhoods, workplaces, schools, churches, senior centers and other community locations, giving patients another way to access healthcare when transportation, mobility, cost or work schedules make traditional appointments more difficult. TOMAGWA describes Reach not simply as a traveling clinic, but as an entry point to continued care, with care-navigation specialists helping patients understand what comes next after a visit.

For some older adults, working families and expectant mothers in northwest Harris County, simply getting to a doctor can still be difficult. TOMAGWA reports that approximately 100,000 Harris County adults age 65 and older went without needed healthcare in 2025, while only 51% of Harris County births in 2021 involved mothers who began prenatal care during the first trimester. The organization also points to roughly 250,000 Harris County residents who rely on emergency departments for primary care each year when routine healthcare is difficult to obtain.

What Patients Can Find Inside TOMAGWA Reach

The new mobile health center is a custom-built 36-foot Winnebago Specialty Vehicle on a Ford F-53 chassis, configured to function much like a small clinic on wheels.

It includes two private exam rooms, an onboard lab station, wheelchair access, high-speed Wi-Fi, secure medication storage and independent power and water systems. TOMAGWA says the unit was designed with patient privacy, accessibility and staff workflow in mind, allowing it to support everything from community health clinics and school vaccination events to focused health initiatives and disaster response.

Reach is intended to serve women and growing families needing prenatal support and preventive screenings; families and working adults seeking vaccinations, physicals and routine preventive care; older adults needing chronic disease support or medication guidance; and residents who otherwise have limited access to healthcare.

Schools and employers can also partner with TOMAGWA. School-based services may include dental and vision screenings, vaccinations, sports and school physicals, health education and referrals. Workplace wellness deployments can offer services such as eye exams, flu and COVID vaccinations, annual physicals, preventive screenings and care navigation.

First TOMAGWA Reach Services Begin Sept. 16

Following the ribbon cutting, TOMAGWA Reach is scheduled to begin recurring service in the Champions area of northwest Houston on Wednesday, Sept. 16, offering primary care, lab and OB/GYN services from noon to 4:30 p.m. at 14530 Wunderlich Drive, Suite 130, Houston.

Residents will also have another opportunity to see the mobile unit when TOMAGWA holds an open house during its annual charity golf tournament at High Meadow Ranch Golf Course in Magnolia on Oct. 1.

Patients who need information about Reach services, eligibility, accessibility or scheduling can contact TOMAGWA’s patient team. TOMAGWA also accepts insured patients, offers self-pay options and provides a Sliding Fee Discount Program for qualifying patients based on household income and family size.

Community Partnerships Help Put Healthcare on the Road

TOMAGWA credited a broad group of community partners and supporters with helping celebrate the Reach launch, including Harris County Precinct 3 Commissioner Tom Ramsey, the Houston Northwest Chamber, American Heart Association – Texas, Harris County Public Health, Cypress Assistance Ministries and Care Net Pregnancy Center of Houston.

The organization also recognized Judge Lincoln Goodwin, Timika Marks Simmons, Jonathan Schleicher and Larissa Pennington Plunto, along with other community partners, supporters and guests who joined the ribbon-cutting celebration.

The Sept. 11 ceremony also carried a more reflective note. TOMAGWA used the occasion to remember those who lost their lives in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, along with first responders and others affected by that day.

Bringing TOMAGWA Reach Into More Communities

The mobile program is built to expand through partnerships. Schools, churches, employers, senior communities and other organizations can request a Reach deployment, while businesses and community groups can sponsor visits, volunteer, help coordinate referrals or introduce the program to neighborhoods where services could be useful.

For residents, that means TOMAGWA Reach could become increasingly visible across northwest Harris County and the broader Greater Houston area—not as a replacement for a permanent medical home, but as another door into one.

TOMAGWA has spent more than three decades providing medical, dental, vision, laboratory, pharmacy and case-management services to residents with limited resources. With Reach now on the road, that care can travel farther into the communities where it is needed.

Residents can learn more about TOMAGWA Reach Mobile Health, upcoming deployments, patient services and opportunities to bring the mobile clinic to a community location through TOMAGWA HealthCare Ministries.
