Leadership Beyond the Classroom: Seven Lakes High School Students Earn State Championship in HOSA Parliamentary Procedure

April 14 2026

For families in Katy ISD, student achievement often reflects more than academic success—it signals how well schools are preparing young people for real-world challenges. That’s exactly what Seven Lakes High School’s latest statewide victory represents.

A team of student leaders from Seven Lakes High School has earned first place in Parliamentary Procedure at the Texas HOSA State Leadership Conference, marking a significant accomplishment not just for the campus, but for the broader Katy community. The win underscores the growing impact of Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs in Katy ISD and their role in shaping future professionals—particularly in high-demand fields like healthcare.

A State Title Rooted in Real-World Skills

The championship team—Shrey Ghosh, Ivanna Santiago, Anisha Polepally, Saisha Srivastava, Arya Patel, Saanvi Talapalikothuri, Lamha Arora and Shriya Desikan—competed against top-performing students from across Texas in one of HOSA’s most demanding events.

The HOSA Parliamentary Procedure competition is designed to test students’ ability to lead structured, efficient meetings using Robert’s Rules of Order, a widely used system for decision-making in professional environments. Students must first pass a detailed written exam covering motions, voting procedures and formal debate rules. From there, top teams advance to a live simulation, where they conduct a timed meeting while demonstrating leadership roles such as chairperson, secretary and committee members.

The competition mirrors the precision and coordination required in healthcare settings, where teamwork, communication and adherence to protocol can directly impact outcomes.

Why This Matters for Katy ISD Families

For parents and residents across Katy, Cinco Ranch, Seven Meadows and surrounding neighborhoods, this kind of achievement highlights something deeper: students are gaining practical skills that translate directly into future careers.

“Katy ISD continues to prepare students for real-world success by developing leadership, communication and critical thinking skills through programs like HOSA,” said Katy ISD Director of CTE Nicholas Gonzales. “This team’s state championship reflects their commitment to excellence and their ability to lead with confidence in high-pressure environments.”

In a region experiencing rapid growth, with increasing demand for healthcare professionals across Greater Houston, programs like HOSA are helping local students build a strong foundation early—often before they even step onto a college campus.

Understanding HOSA and Its Role in Student Development

HOSA—Future Health Professionals—is a global, student-led organization focused on preparing the next generation of healthcare leaders. Integrated into school curriculum through programs like those in Katy ISD, HOSA offers students opportunities to explore medical careers while building essential life skills.

Through participation, students develop:

  • Leadership and organizational abilities
  • Public speaking and communication skills
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities
  • Confidence through individual and team achievement
  • Real-world exposure to healthcare systems and professionals

Students also engage in community service, connect with peers who share similar career goals and gain access to scholarship opportunities—making HOSA a comprehensive pathway for those interested in the health sciences.

Rather than existing as a standalone club, HOSA functions as a career-readiness platform, aligning closely with the demands of today’s workforce and reinforcing the importance of structured collaboration.

A Reflection of Katy ISD’s Growing CTE Strength

Seven Lakes High School’s state championship win also speaks to the broader strength of Katy ISD Career and Technical Education programs, which continue to expand offerings that blend academic knowledge with hands-on experience.

As more families move into Katy and surrounding communities, access to programs that prepare students for both college and careers remains a top priority. Achievements like this reinforce confidence in local schools and contribute to the district’s reputation for excellence.

What Happens Next

With a state title secured, the Seven Lakes HOSA team is expected to advance to national-level competition, where they will represent Katy ISD on an even larger stage.

For the community, it’s another reminder that behind every accolade are students putting in hours of preparation—and educators building programs that connect classroom learning to real-life application.
