Klein ISD Launching Texas Promise Academy: Tuition-Free Full-Time Virtual School for Texas Students Set to Open Fall 2026
Families across Texas will soon have access to a new public school option designed for flexible, modern learning. Beginning in Fall 2026, Texas Promise Academy, supported by Klein Independent School District (Klein ISD), will open as a tuition-free, full-time virtual school for students in grades 6–12 statewide.
The program aims to meet the growing demand for flexible online education in Texas, offering students the ability to learn in ways that better match their schedules, interests, and learning styles. With certified Texas teachers and a rigorous academic framework, the academy is designed to prepare students for success in college, careers, and an increasingly digital future.
By expanding beyond traditional classroom walls, Klein ISD leaders say the new academy reflects how education is evolving to support families seeking high-quality virtual school options in Texas without vouchers or tuition costs.
A Statewide Virtual School Backed by Klein ISD
Texas Promise Academy will be supported by Klein Independent School District, a nationally recognized public school district serving the northwest Houston region. Through this partnership, students enrolled in the program will receive instruction from certified Texas educators while benefiting from a curriculum built around critical thinking, creativity, and academic rigor.
The academy is designed to provide a fully accredited public education experience while giving students greater control over how and when they learn.
For many families exploring online middle school and high school programs in Texas, the initiative represents a new option that blends the structure of a public school with the flexibility of virtual learning.

Three Flexible Learning Pathways for Students
To meet the diverse needs of students and families, Texas Promise Academy offers three program pathways that allow learners to customize their educational experience.
Full-Time Virtual Program
The Full-Time Virtual Program provides a completely asynchronous learning environment. Students can choose when they work on assignments, progress at a pace that fits their learning style, and determine the order in which they complete coursework.
This model allows students to remain engaged in a rigorous academic program while benefiting from the flexibility many families seek in online school programs for grades 6–12.
Flex Scheduling Program
For students who want a combination of online learning and in-person opportunities, the Flex Scheduling Programoffers a hybrid-style option.
Students can complete most coursework online while attending one to three in-person classes at their designated Klein ISD campus, including:
- Athletics
- Fine arts
- Career and Technical Education (CTE)
- Elective courses and campus-based programs
This pathway allows students to remain connected to traditional campus experiences while maintaining the flexibility of virtual learning.
Supplemental Courses
Texas Promise Academy will also offer Supplemental Courses, which are tuition-based online classes available outside the regular school day.
Students may enroll in up to two additional courses to:
- Accelerate their learning
- Recover academic credit
- Create greater flexibility in their schedules
These supplemental courses will be available not only to Texas Promise Academy students but also to traditional Klein ISD high school students looking to enhance or expand their academic pathways.
Applications Now Open for Fall 2026 Enrollment
Texas Promise Academy is currently accepting in-district applications through March 31, 2026, with out-of-district applications also open for families across the state.
As interest in virtual schools in Texas continues to grow, district leaders encourage families to explore the program early to determine whether the academy’s learning model fits their student’s academic goals and lifestyle.
