Klein ISD Approves 2027-28 School Calendar, Giving Families an Early Look at Holidays and Breaks

Inverness Estates  /
October 06 2026

Klein ISD families can start planning ahead for the 2027-28 school year after the Board of Trustees unanimously approved the district calendar on Oct. 5.

The new calendar sets the first day of school for Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2027, and the last day of school for Friday, May 26, 2028. It also lays out several extended breaks and student holidays throughout the year, giving families plenty of advance notice for vacations, child care and other plans.

Community Input Helped Shape the Calendar

Before the calendar reached the Board, Klein ISD asked staff, parents, students and community members to rank three proposed options.

Calendar A received the most support from respondents across all groups and was recommended for adoption. Trustees then approved it unanimously.

For families, one of the biggest benefits is simply having the dates early. With the school year still months away, parents can already begin planning around major holidays, teacher workdays and longer school breaks.

Key Klein ISD Holiday and Break Dates for 2027-28

Here are some of the most important dates for families to save:

A Closer Look at the School Year

The first grading period will run from Aug. 11 through Oct. 8, followed almost immediately by Fall Break from Oct. 11 through Oct. 15.

The second grading period begins Oct. 18 and ends Dec. 17, which is also the final day of the fall semester. Winter Break begins Dec. 20 and continues through Dec. 31. Students will remain out of class Jan. 3 and Jan. 4 while teachers and staff return for workdays.

Students return Jan. 5 for the start of the third grading period. Mid-Winter Break is scheduled for Feb. 7 through Feb. 11, although teachers and staff will work Feb. 7 through Feb. 9 before joining students for holidays on Feb. 10 and Feb. 11.

Spring Break will follow from March 13 through March 17. The fourth grading period begins March 20 and continues through May 26, bringing the school year to a close just before Memorial Day weekend.

School Hours Remain Listed by Campus Level

The approved calendar also lists the following daily school hours:

Elementary schools will operate from 8:05 a.m. to 3:25 p.m., intermediate schools from 8:55 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., and high schools from 7:15 a.m. to 2:35 p.m.

With the 2027-28 Klein ISD calendar now approved, families have a clear roadmap for the year ahead. From long holiday breaks to single student days off, the early release gives parents time to plan well before the first school bell rings next August.
