Klein ISD Approves 2026-2027 Pay Raises, Health Insurance Support for Employees

June 10 2026

As districts across Texas continue navigating staffing challenges, budget pressures, and rising healthcare expenses, Klein ISD has reaffirmed its commitment to investing in the people who serve students every day.

The Klein ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved the district's 2026-2027 compensation plan on June 8, providing pay raises for teachers and eligible employees while also increasing the district's contribution toward employee health insurance. For the thousands of educators, support staff, and administrators who work across Klein ISD campuses, the move represents another year of financial investment from the district.

For families throughout Klein, Spring, Tomball, and surrounding communities served by Klein ISD, the compensation package is also a reflection of a broader priority: attracting and retaining experienced educators and staff members who support student success.

Seven Consecutive Years of Employee Pay Raises

Under the approved compensation plan, teachers and all other full-time Teacher Retirement System (TRS)-eligible employees will receive a pay increase equal to 3% of the 2025-2026 midpoint of their respective pay grades.

The approval continues a notable trend within Klein ISD. According to the district, employees have received annual pay raises since 2019, marking seven consecutive years of compensation increases.

District leaders said the decision reflects a shared commitment to supporting the professionals who educate, mentor, and care for students throughout the school year.

Additional Support for Rising Healthcare Costs

In addition to the salary increases, Klein ISD will increase its contribution toward employee health insurance by $62 per month beginning Sept. 1, 2026, for employees who participate in district health coverage.

The increase is intended to help offset higher costs associated with TRS ActiveCare, the statewide health insurance program for many Texas public school employees. District officials noted that those increases are outside Klein ISD's direct control, but the district continues to advocate for more affordable healthcare options at the state level.

For many employees, healthcare costs have become an increasingly important factor when evaluating overall compensation packages, making the additional monthly contribution a meaningful benefit.

Employee Benefits Extend Beyond Compensation

The approved compensation package also highlights several ongoing employee benefits designed to support staff well-being and long-term career satisfaction.

Among those benefits are:

  • Unlimited 24/7 phone and online mental health support for employees and their families
  • Three counseling visits at no additional cost
  • A school calendar that includes regular breaks and designated teacher workdays
  • Retirement leave payments for eligible employees with at least 10 consecutive years of Klein ISD service immediately before retirement
  • Longevity payments beginning after 10 years of consecutive service, with additional recognition at five-year milestones

These programs are part of the district's ongoing effort to support employees both professionally and personally.

Board Emphasizes Value of Educators and Staff

Klein ISD Board President Doug James said district leaders remain focused on recognizing the contributions of employees throughout the organization.

"In Klein ISD, our people are our greatest strength, and we will always prioritize investing in them." James added, "We are so grateful for your hard work and commitment to our students and Klein ISD."

The compensation plan was approved unanimously by the Board of Trustees, underscoring broad support for the district's employee-focused approach.

Why This Matters for the Klein Community

For parents, students, and residents across the Klein ISD attendance area, competitive compensation is about more than employee paychecks. School districts throughout Texas continue competing for qualified teachers, counselors, bus drivers, and support staff, making retention and recruitment critical factors in maintaining strong educational programs.

By continuing annual pay increases and helping offset rising healthcare costs, Klein ISD leaders hope to strengthen the district's ability to attract and retain talented professionals who directly impact student learning and campus culture.

As preparations for the 2026-2027 school year continue, the approved compensation plan signals the district's ongoing investment in the people who help make Klein ISD one of the largest and most recognized school districts in the Houston region.

What Happens Next

The approved pay increases will take effect for the 2026-2027 school year, while the additional $62 monthly district contribution toward employee health insurance will begin Sept. 1, 2026, for participating employees.

District employees with questions regarding compensation are encouraged to contact Klein ISD's Connect2HR department for additional information.
