Klein FD, HCESD16 Participate in Annual Fire Prevention Poster Contest

October 10 2023

Harris County Emergency Services District 16, Klein Fire Department (“HCESD 16” or “KFD”) is participating in the State Firefighter’s and Fire Marshal’s Association (SFFMA) annual Fire Prevention Poster Contest. Students in grades Pre-K through 12 are welcome to submit their original, individual work that represents any area of fire prevention and/or fire safety. The posters (14 inches by 24 inches) may use any art medium the student artist chooses, including painting, acrylic, cut-outs, pen and ink, crayon, chalk, pencil, and computer graphics.

We will be taking submissions from Klein-area schools (public, private, charter, parochial, or home) during Fire Prevention Month 2023 – October 8th through the 21st. A panel from the Klein Fire Department will choose the top 3 submissions per division during the week of November 6th, sending the winners to the SFFMA State Convention, which will take place in June 2024. All poster submissions will be displayed in the HCESD 16 Administration Building for public enjoyment.

Each campus may submit their top 3 posters for each division to Klein Fire Department. The contest consists of six divisions, with the following grades in each division:

  • Kindergarten Division: Grades Pre-K, K
  • Primary Division: Grades 1, 2
  • Intermediate Division: Grades 3, 4
  • Middle Division: Grades 5, 6
  • Junior High Division: Grades 7, 8
  • High School Division: Grades 9, 10, 11, 12

Submitted posters may represent any area of fire prevention and/or fire safety. Posters must be the original, individual work of the student. Only one entry per student is allowed. The required size of the poster is 14 inches by 24 inches.

Any art medium is acceptable, including painting, acrylic, cut-outs, pen and ink, crayons, chalk, pencil, and computer graphics, but must adhere to the following limitations:

  • No objects over one-half inch in height are to be placed on the poster.
  • No live matches may be used on the poster.
  • No glass may be used on the poster.

The following information must be submitted in a sealed envelope attached to the back of the poster. Inside the envelope on a card or piece of paper, please include the following information:

  • Name of student
  • Name of school
  • Address of school
  • Grade of student
  • Name of fire department
  • Name of district association

On the front of the envelope, indicate the contest division in which the poster is entered. Please do not include any other information on the outside of the envelope.

All submitted posters must include the above information and conform to the indicated requirements to avoid disqualification.

All submitted posters become the property of the State Firefighters' and Fire Marshals’ Association to be exhibited at the state contest. Winning posters will be displayed for one year at the State Firefighters’ and Fire Marshals' Association of Texas offices in Manchaca, Texas. Trophies will be presented to the district representative for presentation to the winners. Ribbons will be provided for each place and attached to the posters.
