Katy ISD Trustees Approve Additional Spring Holiday for 2024-2025 School Year, Contingent on Weather Conditions

Katy ISD Trustees Approve Additional Spring Holiday for 2024-2025 School Year, Contingent on Weather Conditions

March 31 2025

At the March 31, 2025 Katy ISD board meeting, the Katy ISD Board of Trustees approved amendments to the instructional calendars for the 2024-2025, 2025-2026, and 2026-2027 school years. The primary change introduces an additional spring holiday in April, contingent upon the district not utilizing more than two bad weather days during the academic year.

"Katy ISD is meticulous in complying with the requirement for operational minutes to ensure that students have the instructional time they need to thrive," said Sherri Ashorn, Director of Student Affairs in Katy ISD. "Because of this fastidiousness, and if the weather cooperates, the District can now offer staff an extra spring holiday."

Katy ISD's Board policy mandates a minimum of 75,600 operational minutes each school year. The existing Board-approved calendars have already incorporated sufficient minutes to account for up to two bad weather days. The newly approved amendments allow for a bonus spring holiday, typically scheduled around Easter weekend, for staff—provided the district does not exceed the two bad weather day limit.

The remaining 2024-2025 instructional calendar includes several key dates:

  • Good Friday Holiday: Friday, April 18, 2025

  • Last Day of School for Seniors: Friday, May 16, 2025

  • Last Day of School: Thursday, May 22, 2025

The additional spring holiday offers staff a potential break in April without impacting required instructional time, aligning with the district’s effort to balance operational requirements and scheduling flexibility.
