Katy ISD Celebrates 2026 Winter Graduates in Special Midyear Commencement Ceremony
It was a proud evening at the Leonard E. Merrell Center on January 22, as Katy ISD honored 85 students during its 2026 Winter Commencement Ceremony. For these graduates and their families, the event marked a meaningful moment—one shaped by persistence, support, and the shared excitement of what comes next.
Held each January, the winter graduation offers students who complete their high school requirements midyear the chance to celebrate in a dedicated ceremony. This year’s event brought together district leaders, educators, families, and friends to recognize each student’s journey and the people who helped them get there.
“We are extremely proud of our winter graduates,” said Dr. Emily Craig, Katy ISD Assistant Superintendent for School Leadership and Support. “Their perseverance and dedication demonstrate a commitment to excellence. Whether they are enrolling in college, joining the military, or entering the workforce, we are excited to celebrate their accomplishments.”

As names were called and diplomas handed out, cheers echoed through the venue. Many in the crowd stood to applaud their graduates, some with tears, others with proud smiles and enthusiastic waves. The ceremony struck a tone that was both celebratory and reflective, acknowledging not only academic achievement but also the individual effort behind it.
The midyear celebration reflects Katy ISD’s broader mission to partner with families and the community in preparing students for lives of purpose and impact—whether they choose higher education, skilled trades, military service, or the workforce.
For the Class of 2026 winter graduates, the ceremony was more than a formality—it was a chance to pause, be recognized, and take pride in what they’ve achieved so far.
And for the Katy community, it was another reminder of what’s possible when students are supported, believed in, and given the space to grow.
