Families in Oak Park Trails may want to keep an eye on the next Katy ISD Board of Trustees meeting, where district leaders are expected to discuss several issues that could shape students’ daily experiences, future school assignments and learning options.

The regular Katy ISD board meeting will begin at 5 p.m. Monday, July 27, 2026, inside the Board Room of the Katy ISD Education Support Complex, located at 6301 S. Stadium Lane in Katy. Residents may attend in person or watch through the district’s free online board meeting livestream.

Among the most closely watched agenda items are an update on attendance boundary planning for a future elementary campus, a proposal to launch a district virtual high school and consideration of the 2026-27 Student Code of Conduct.

Attendance Boundary Planning for Elementary School No. 49

Katy ISD administrators are scheduled to provide an update on possible attendance boundary modifications for Elementary School No. 49, which are being planned for the 2027-28 school year.

No specific boundary changes are listed in the meeting notice, but the discussion is likely to be important for families living in fast-growing portions of Katy ISD. Attendance boundary modifications can affect which campuses students attend, transportation routes, neighborhood school connections and future enrollment levels.

The board will also consider granting a blanket electrical easement to CenterPoint Energy Houston Electric in connection with the construction of Elementary School No. 49.

For residents of Oak Park Trails, the update offers an early opportunity to follow how Katy ISD is preparing for continued enrollment growth and where future campus capacity may be needed.

Katy ISD Virtual High School Proposed for 2026-27

Trustees are also scheduled to consider launching a Katy ISD virtual high school for the 2026-27 school year under Chapter 30B of the Texas Education Code.

The agenda does not provide details about eligibility, available courses, staffing or how enrollment would work. Still, the proposal could create another educational option for Katy ISD high school students who may benefit from a more flexible or fully online learning environment.

Additional information is expected to be presented as the board considers whether to approve the program.

Student Attendance, Discipline and Teacher Incentives

The board will receive a progress report on Katy ISD’s Student Attendance Incentive Initiative, which is designed to encourage consistent attendance and reduce missed instructional time.

Trustees are also scheduled to receive an update on the Teacher Incentive Allotment, a state-supported program that can provide additional compensation to qualifying educators based on locally developed and state-approved designation systems.

The consent agenda includes possible approval of the district’s 2026-27 Discipline Management Plan and Student Code of Conduct. These documents guide how campuses respond to student behavior, disciplinary incidents and school safety concerns throughout the academic year.

Public Hearing on Senate Bill 12 Compliance

The meeting will include a public hearing on Katy ISD’s compliance with Senate Bill 12 requirements. The board is also scheduled to consider district compliance with the legislation later in the agenda.

Residents interested in the district’s implementation of new state requirements may follow the hearing and any related board discussion during the meeting.

The board is also expected to enter a closed session for a consultation with its attorney and a safety and security update. Any action requiring a public vote would occur after trustees reconvene in open session.

Campus Projects, Vehicles and Facility Improvements

Several proposed purchases and construction-related items are included on the July agenda.

Trustees will consider purchasing police vehicles and other district fleet vehicles, field turf, track repairs and replacement equipment, and audiovisual equipment.

The board may also act on proposals to replace building management control systems at Paetow High School and Stockdick Junior High School, approve a construction contract for a new Opportunity Awareness Center and amend an existing contract covering renovations and additions at multiple Katy ISD maintenance and transportation facilities.

Another item calls for naming a portion of a facility at Katy High School, although the agenda does not identify the proposed name or specific area of the campus.

Student and Team Achievements to Be Recognized

The meeting will begin with several recognitions celebrating Katy ISD students and teams that earned state-level honors.

The board is scheduled to recognize the 2026 FFA Career Development Events State Championship, the UIL 6A Academic State Championship, the UIL 6A Boys Doubles Tennis State Championship, the UIL 6A Track and Field State Championship and the UIL 6A Softball State Championship.

Texas House District 26 Rep. Matt Morgan and representatives from the office of Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner Lesley Briones are also scheduled to make presentations honoring Katy ISD’s FFA and UIL state champions.

For families across the district, the recognitions offer a reminder that Katy ISD students continue to represent their schools and communities at the highest levels of academic, agricultural and athletic competition.

How Residents Can Speak at the Katy ISD Board Meeting

Residents who want to participate in public comment must register in advance by emailing publicspeakers@katyisd.org no later than 2 p.m. Monday, July 27.

The email must include the speaker’s first and last name, mailing address, the number of each agenda item the person plans to address, whether the speaker lives within Katy ISD and whether the speaker has children attending Katy ISD schools.

Only speakers who register by the deadline and provide the required information will be called to address the board.

Agenda documents are expected to become available through BoardDocs after midnight on the Friday before the meeting.

The July 27 meeting gives Oak Park Trails residents a chance to follow decisions involving school growth, virtual education, student expectations, campus improvements and district spending.
