Katy ISD Board Approves Attendance Boundary Modifications for New Elementary Schools #47 and #48

October 28 2024

At the latest Regular Board Meeting, the Katy ISD Board of Trustees confirmed the approval of Attendance Boundary Modifications (ABM) for two upcoming elementary schools in the district's northwest quadrant, marking a significant milestone in the district's development plans.

The adopted ABMs will oversee the newest additions to the Katy ISD family: Elementary Schools #47 and #48. These schools, scheduled for a fall 2025 opening, are expected to ease enrollment congestion at several existing schools. Located in the Elyson area, Elementary #47 will serve to alleviate enrollment pressures currently faced by Youngblood Elementary. At the same time, Elementary #48, located in the Sunterra South area, will assist in balancing the student bodies at Faldyn and Robertson elementary schools.

The process of creating these ABMs, which are instrumental in handling the district's evolution, involved extensive community participation. Over a five-month period, parents from affected schools were given the chance to contribute their thoughts and insights.

Ted Vierling, Chief Operations Officer at Katy ISD, explained that the modifications were necessary due to the rapid growth of the district's northwest quadrant. "We want to be sure we're effectively serving families as they move into the district," Vierling said. The district also collaborates with Population and Survey Analysts, a demographic partner, to address capacity concerns in these fast-growing areas.

The modifications are essential due to an estimated influx of around 2,000 new students each year, forcing the need for the 2025-2026 school year ABMs. The methodology behind these ABMs stems from a rezoning process that Katy ISD has successfully utilized over many years. This process is also guided by recommendations from Population and Survey Analysts, the largest demographic firm in Texas.

Elementary #47 and #48 will be located at 7402 Katy Hockley Cut Off Road and 900 Sunterra Shores Drive, respectively. For more details about these ABMs, visit the Katy ISD website.
