T.W. Davis Family YMCA Capital Campaign Launches $16.6M Expansion to Serve Growing Fort Bend County Community

For families across Fort Bend County, the T.W. Davis Family YMCA has long been more than just a fitness center—it’s a place where children learn, neighbors connect, and healthy habits take root. Now, that familiar space is preparing for a significant transformation designed to meet the demands of one of the fastest-growing regions in the Houston area.

The YMCA of Greater Houston has officially launched the T.W. Davis Family YMCA Capital Campaign, a multi-phase initiative focused on expanding and modernizing the facility in Richmond, Texas. For local residents, the project represents not only new amenities but a renewed commitment to community health, accessibility, and connection.

The campaign reflects a broader shift happening across Fort Bend County—where rapid population growth is driving the need for updated infrastructure, expanded recreational spaces, and inclusive gathering places for families of all backgrounds.

Phase 1: A $16.6 Million Investment in Community Health and Growth

The first phase of the capital campaign centers on constructing a new 36,000-square-foot facility, designed to better serve current members while welcoming new families into the YMCA community. This phase carries an estimated investment of $16.6 million, covering both construction and campaign-related costs. The existing T.W. Davis Family YMCA is located at 911 Thompson Highway, Richmond, 77469.

Significantly, the effort has already gained strong financial backing, with $11.96 million secured to date. This includes a $2.5 million contribution from Fort Bend County and $1 million from the City of Richmond, signaling broad public support for the project.

Stephen Ives, president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Houston, emphasized the long-term vision behind the initiative.

“This campaign represents a meaningful investment in the future of this community,” said Stephen Ives, president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Houston. “For decades, the T.W. Davis Family YMCA has been a place where people of all ages come together to build healthier lives and stronger connections. Through this capital campaign, we are positioning the nonprofit as an organization actively meeting the evolving community’s needs while ensuring access and impact for generations to come.”

What the New T.W. Davis Family YMCA Will Offer Residents

The planned upgrades are designed with both functionality and inclusivity in mind, ensuring that residents of all ages and fitness levels feel welcome and supported.

Key features of the new facility will include:

  • A modern lobby and welcoming entrance area
  • A full gymnasium for sports and community events
  • Wellness and group exercise studios
  • Dedicated youth program spaces
  • Updated locker rooms
  • Outdoor gathering areas for families and social activities

These enhancements aim to create a more accessible and engaging environment—one that reflects the diversity and growth of Fort Bend County while supporting healthier lifestyles.

Leadership Driving the Vision Forward

The campaign is being guided by a Capital Campaign Steering Committee led by Dr. Jacquie Baly, a respected entrepreneur, professor, and community advocate. Her leadership brings both local insight and a focus on long-term community wellness.

“Some of the most meaningful milestones aren't personal—they're shared with the community we call home,” said Dr. Jacquie Baly, president of BalyProjects LLC. and former Sugar Land councilmember. “The T.W. Davis Family YMCA Capital Campaign is about investing in families, in futures and in the strength of the Fort Bend Community.”

Serving as honorary chair is former Fort Bend County Judge Robert E. “Bob” Hebert, whose decades of public service reflect the collaborative spirit behind the project.

"Fort Bend County has grown significantly in the last 20 years, and this campaign will deliver an improved T.W. Davis Family YMCA that meets the needs of our expanding community,” said former Fort Bend County Judge Bob Hebert. “We are all working together to make good things happen in Fort Bend.”

Why This Expansion Matters for Richmond and Fort Bend County

As Fort Bend County continues to experience rapid residential and commercial growth, community spaces like the YMCA play a critical role in maintaining quality of life. For homeowners, families, and local leaders, investments like this often translate into stronger neighborhoods, increased property value appeal, and improved access to wellness and youth development programs.

The expansion of the T.W. Davis Family YMCA also aligns with broader trends across the Houston suburbs, where demand for family-focused recreation centers, after-school programs, and community wellness services continues to rise.

What Happens Next

While Phase 1 funding is well underway, additional fundraising efforts will continue as the YMCA works toward completing the full vision for the facility. Future phases are expected to further expand amenities and services, though details will be shared as plans progress.

Residents can expect ongoing updates from the YMCA of Greater Houston as construction timelines develop and additional milestones are reached.

As Fort Bend County continues to grow, projects like the T.W. Davis Family YMCA expansion highlight how community-driven investment can shape the future of local neighborhoods. For many families, it’s not just about a new building—it’s about preserving a place where connections are built and strengthened for generations.
