An Icon of American Musical Theatre

Oklahoma! premiered on Broadway in 1943, marking the first collaboration between Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II. Set in a Western territory just before Oklahoma achieved statehood in the early 1900s, the story follows Curly, a charming cowboy, and Laurey, a strong-willed farm girl, as they navigate a tender romance amid the backdrop of rivalries between local farmers and cowboys.

The musical is known for its unforgettable score—including songs like “Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin’”, “People Will Say We’re in Love”, and “The Surrey with the Fringe on Top”—and for introducing the groundbreaking idea that every element of a musical, from songs to dance numbers, should advance the plot.

It’s no surprise that Oklahoma! won a special Pulitzer Prize in 1944 and has seen countless revivals on Broadway and beyond. The show continues to influence generations of theatre lovers and performers with its themes of hope, community, and the pursuit of a brighter future.

Jordan Theatre Company: A Legacy of Excellence

Jordan Theatre Company, part of Katy ISD, has quickly established itself as one of the most respected high school theatre programs in the Greater Houston area. Known for its ambitious productions, high production values, and strong community engagement, the company has earned accolades at both regional and state levels.

With a strong ensemble cast, dedicated crew, and passionate direction, the company continues to raise the bar for student performance arts in Fulshear and Katy.

This production of Oklahoma! promises to showcase that signature excellence, inviting the community to experience a classic American tale performed with fresh energy and authentic heart.
