Jordan Theatre Company at Jordan High School Presents King Lear by William Shakespeare
The Jordan Theatre Company at Jordan High School will present a powerful and poignant production of William Shakespeare's King Lear, February 20-22, 2025, at the Jordan High School Auditorium, located at 27500 Fulshear Bend Drive in Fulshear. The show will have evening performances at 7:00 PM, with a matinee performance on February 22 at 2:00 PM.
One of Shakespeare's most celebrated tragedies, King Lear tells the heartbreaking story of an aging king who seeks to divide his kingdom among his three daughters. The play explores themes of loyalty, betrayal, family dynamics, and the consequences of pride. The king asks his daughters to declare how much they love him, leading to a devastating series of events. The older daughters, Goneril and Regan, flatter Lear with grandiose declarations of love, while his youngest daughter, Cordelia, remains truthful and refuses to indulge his ego, causing Lear to disown her. As Lear’s kingdom unravels, he faces betrayal, madness, and a tragic storm of events.
Meanwhile, the subplot follows the story of the Earl of Gloucester, who is similarly deceived by his illegitimate son, Edmund. Edmund’s treachery leads to the blinding of Gloucester and further chaos, as he continues his manipulation of those around him. As Lear and his allies struggle for survival, the tragic consequences of their decisions come to a head, culminating in a heartbreaking conclusion that emphasizes the consequences of ambition, dishonesty, and unchecked power.
