
Jeremy Hickman Named Cypress Woods High School Campus Athletic Coordinator and Head Football Coach
Jeremy Hickman has been named the new campus athletic coordinator and head football coach at Cypress Woods High School, marking his return to the school where he previously coached. Hickman, who most recently served as the athletic director and head football coach at Fort Stockton High School, replaces Cody Simper, who was appointed head football coach at Barbers Hill High School last month.
Hickman brings 21 years of high school coaching experience, including three years as a head coach. His career began in 2004 as a varsity secondary coach at West High School, followed by a move to Fort Stockton High School, where he took on multiple coaching roles, including head baseball coach, freshman girls basketball coach, and wide receivers/defensive backs coach.
Hickman’s connection to Cypress Woods High School dates back to 2007, when he joined the inaugural varsity football staff as a defensive backs and linebackers coach, also teaching U.S. History. From 2012 to 2021, he served at Kerrville Tivy High School as assistant head football coach, defensive coordinator, and head strength coach, in addition to coaching softball from 2014 to 2019. He later moved to New Braunfels Canyon High School before taking on his most recent role at Fort Stockton.

During his tenure at Fort Stockton High School, Hickman led the Panthers to a 25-8 overall record, including a 10-2 season in 2022, the most wins in the school’s history. His leadership earned him recognition as the 2023 West Texas Football Coach of the Year by the 33 Lead Foundation.
CFISD Director of Athletics Virginia Flores expressed confidence in Hickman’s ability to lead the Cypress Woods athletic program.
“We are excited to have Coach Jeremy Hickman serve as the campus athletic coordinator and head football coach at Cypress Woods High School,” Flores said.
She emphasized his ability to connect with athletes and his vision for the program.
“Beyond his coaching ability, Coach Hickman deeply impacts the athletes he serves and expressed a complete and exciting vision for the Cypress Woods athletic program that not only focused on upholding the standard of excellence that has been established in the Cypress Woods High School athletic program but building upon it as well,” she added.

Hickman holds a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education and Social Studies from Western New Mexico University and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Schreiner University. While at Western New Mexico, he played linebacker and worked as a graduate assistant coach.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the new role, Hickman highlighted his eagerness to return to the Cypress Woods community.
“It is an honor to be named the campus athletic coordinator and head football coach at Cypress Woods High School,” Hickman said.
“My family and I are excited to rejoin the Cy Woods family and community. The school has a rich tradition of excellence in the classroom and in all extracurricular activities.”
He acknowledged the support he has received and his commitment to the school’s athletics program.

As Hickman steps into his new role, he aims to continue the tradition of excellence in Cypress Woods athletics, emphasizing dedication, discipline, and teamwork to drive success on and off the field.
