Help Reimagine Downtown Jarrell: City Seeks Community Input for Master Plan

Help Reimagine Downtown Jarrell: City Seeks Community Input for Master Plan

January 23 2026

As the City of Jarrell continues to experience rapid growth, city leaders are asking residents to take an active role in shaping its future—beginning with the heart of the city: Downtown Jarrell. The City is currently developing a comprehensive Downtown Master Plan designed to guide future decisions on land use, infrastructure, traffic, public spaces, and more.

Residents of Jarrell are encouraged to share their thoughts through a short online survey now open at: Take the survey here

According to city officials, community input will play a vital role in determining the long-term vision for Downtown Jarrell—ensuring that growth happens in a way that preserves the city's charm while meeting the needs of current and future residents.

Shaping a Growing Community

Originally established in 1909 by real estate developer O.D. Jarrell as a railroad town, the City of Jarrell in Williamson County has transformed from a small rural outpost into one of the fastest-growing areas in Central Texas. With an official population of 1,753 as of the 2020 Census and thousands more in nearby developments, Jarrell is growing rapidly, becoming a magnet for families and businesses seeking the balance of small-town life with proximity to Austin and Temple.

In the past decade, new housing developments, schools, and local businesses have contributed to a surge in population growth. According to recent data from the U.S. Census and city planning offices, Jarrell’s population has more than doubled since 2010—and that trajectory is expected to continue.

Revitalizing Downtown Jarrell

The Downtown Jarrell Master Plan seeks to harness this momentum by reimagining the historic core of the city. While downtown still reflects elements of its early 20th-century roots, city leaders envision a vibrant central hub that supports local businesses, hosts community events, and serves as a walkable, accessible gathering space for residents.

The master plan will focus on several key areas, including:

  • Land Use: Balancing commercial, residential, and civic space to support sustainable growth.
  • Infrastructure Improvements: Updating roads, sidewalks, and public utilities.
  • Traffic Management: Enhancing flow and safety for drivers and pedestrians alike.
  • Parks and Open Spaces: Expanding green areas and recreational spaces for families.
  • Special Events: Planning community-centric programming to activate the downtown area.

Your Voice Matters

City officials are emphasizing the importance of local voices in this process. Whether you’ve lived in Jarrell for decades or recently moved to one of the area’s many growing neighborhoods, your feedback can directly influence the design and priorities of the Downtown Master Plan.

Residents have a unique opportunity to help influence what Jarrell will become in the years ahead. The City aims to ensure that the downtown area reflects the values, needs, and vision of the people who call Jarrell home.

Take the Survey Today

The City invites all Jarrell residents, business owners, and stakeholders to complete the Downtown Master Plan survey and be a part of the planning process. The survey only takes a few minutes to complete and will remain open through the early stages of the planning timeline.

The future of Downtown Jarrell is being written now—and it starts with you.
