Humble Grounds Coffeehouse Opens Second Location in Heart of Katy

February 16 2024

In the era of busy café chains and anonymous coffee shops, Humble Grounds Coffeehouse stands out as a place where community, connection, and quality coffee coalesce. Established in Fulshear in September 2020, this familial coffeehouse has moved forward with the opening of a second location with an ultra-cozy twist in Katy, The Gathering Grounds.

Hailing from south Louisiana, Becca and Garrett Speed share a love story that dates back to their freshmen year at Louisiana Tech. Today, they are married with three children, living in a city they are proud to call home. The Speeds envisioned Humble Grounds to represent the pillars of their family: kindness, love and fellowship. For Becca, “it's not just about the coffee. It's about serving your community and your neighbors.”

"They say choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life," Becca explains, her eyes lighting up at the thought of engaging with her customers. "The opportunity to create a space that encourages community connection, inspires teaching and mentoring, and advocates for serving others - that's why we started Humble Grounds."

The Speeds, proud parents of Ryan, Samantha, and Madeline, are also active participants in their community, volunteering with youth groups at their church and supporting a number of local nonprofits. Their dedication to the community infuses Humble Grounds with a sense of purpose and dedication that goes beyond merely serving coffee.

While their original location in Fulshear offers an intimate setting in a busy area, their new location in Katy presents a tranquil escape from the fast pace of the city. "There's something magical about this place," says Becca, talking about the new location. "You forget you're in a large city. You can unwind, enjoy a cup of coffee, or share a meal amidst the rustling of trees."

The Speeds have curated an inviting menu at their Katy location, offering their customers a wide variety of coffee drinks, teas, smoothies, breakfast items, and lunch options. They take pride in their locally roasted coffee beans, available for purchase either whole or ground. Additionally, they offer a selection of stationery, paper gifts, and Humble Grounds merchandise created by local artists.

To celebrate the opening of their new location in Katy, The Speeds took part in a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce. Alongside members of the community, local business owners, and supporters, the event marked an exciting milestone for Humble Grounds as they deepen their commitment to create a warm and welcoming space for the community to gather and enjoy exceptional coffee.

Matthew Ferraro, the President and CEO of the Katy Area Chamber, expressed his support for Humble Grounds, stating, "We are thrilled to welcome Humble Grounds to the Katy community. Their commitment to quality coffee and fostering connections aligns perfectly with our vision of promoting local businesses and building a strong community."

Reflecting on the journey, Becca shares, "Running Humble Grounds is more than a business endeavour. It's about creating an extension of our home - to offer hospitality and service on a larger scale." Slow down and settle into a cozy chair at The Gathering Grounds at 1512 Ave C, Building A in Katy, where you will be welcomed with open arms.
