How to Request Storm Debris Pick Up in Your Neighborhood, Cooling Centers and More

July 08 2024

In the wake of Beryl's departure, Montgomery County's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (OHSEM) has issued an urgent appeal for residents to remain off the roads. The county has been faced with an extreme surge in emergency calls, many of which are being obstructed by unnecessary road traffic.

Record-breaking power outages have been reported throughout the county, resulting in darkened intersections and commercial buildings. The Office warns against being outside, citing the ongoing lack of safety while restoration crews work diligently to bring power back to the county.

In response to the widespread outages, power crews from across the nation are arriving to aid in the massive restoration efforts. Judge Keough has also requested state aid to provide additional crews equipped with chainsaws, who are currently en route to assist.

Reporting Damage in Montgomery County

To report damage to the Montgomery County Disaster Hotline, call 936-522-2349.

The County is also conducting a thorough assessment of the damage inflicted on public infrastructure in the aftermath of Beryl. Despite the storm having passed, the County remains under the threat of wrap around thunderstorms, adding to their request for residents to stay off the roads.

This will allow the county’s first responders to efficiently address and respond to the hundreds of calls for service they are currently contending with. OHSEM urges the public to aid these efforts by observing the request to stay off the roads, reducing the strain on emergency services and allowing them to catch up with the pending calls for service.
