Houston Area Community Centers Open Doors as Cooling Centers in Aftermath of Beryl

According to the US National Weather Service Houston-Galveston Texas, a Heat Advisory has been issued for SE TX on Tuesday, July 9 with heat index values up to 106°F, creating dangerous conditions due to the widespread loss of power and A/C.
Local officials and community leaders in Houston are stepping up to provide critical resources to residents. Harris County Precinct 4 has announced the opening of three cooling centers on Tuesday, July 9, from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. The centers will serve as places for residents to escape the heat, recharge devices, and access free Wi-Fi. Here are their locations:
- Bayland Community Center: 6400 Bissonnet Street, Houston
- Radack Community Center: 18650 Clay Road, Houston
- Weekley Community Center: 8440 Greenhouse Road, Cypress

In addition, four other community centers in Harris County Precinct 3 will distribute food and water supplies on July 9, remaining open during regular hours (8 a.m. - 8 p.m.):

- Big Stone Lodge: 709 Riley Fuzzel Road, Spring, Texas 77373
- Trini Mendenhall Community Center: 1414 Wirt Rd, Houston, TX 77055
- Juergen's Hall Community Center: 26026 Hempstead Rd, Cypress, TX 77429
These centers are facing power issues and will close after supplies run out:
- Barrett Station Community Center: 808 1/2 Magnolia Ave, Crosby, TX 77532
- May Community Center: 2100 Wolf Rd, Huffman, TX 77336
- San Jacinto Community Center: 604 Highland Woods Dr, Highlands, TX 77562
- George H.W. Bush Community Center: 6827 Cypresswood Dr, Spring, TX 77379
