Cy-Fair Fire Department Wraps Up First 2025 Kids Fire & Safety Camp with Heartfelt Celebration

June 16 2025

The Cy-Fair Fire Department recently concluded the first of its two 2025 Kids Fire & Safety Camp sessions, and for the lucky group of 15 young campers, the experience was nothing short of transformative.

Held at Cy-Fair Fire Department - Station 9 near the Hearthstone and Copperfield Place Village neighborhoods, the weeklong summer camp welcomed local children who had just completed 3rd or 4th grade. From the moment they stepped into the station, the kids were immersed in a world of firefighting, emergency medicine, and life-saving teamwork—all taught by the very people who protect the Cy-Fair community every day.

Throughout the five-day program, campers got hands-on with firefighter gear, practiced using a fire hose, and toured emergency vehicles—including the AMBUS, a remarkable mobile medical unit courtesy of Fort Bend County. With enthusiasm and focus, they learned how to bandage wounds, splint limbs, perform CPR, and even build makeshift stretchers. For many, the highlight came when they tackled medical scenarios, racing to transport delicate “patients” (a.k.a. water balloons) without bursting them.

There were plenty of serious moments, too. Campers trained in fire escape strategies, learning the importance of having two exits in every room and testing their skills by crawling through simulated smoke. They mastered the art of checking smoke alarms and using fire extinguishers—all while internalizing the importance of staying calm, prepared, and focused in emergencies.

The camp also emphasized hygiene and disease prevention in a memorable way: using Glo Germ lotion and a black light, children discovered just how tricky germs can be and why proper handwashing matters. They practiced the same surgical scrubbing techniques that doctors use before entering an operating room.

But perhaps the most powerful moment came at the end of the week. In a ceremony filled with pride and emotion, campers were pinned with honorary badges by their loved ones in front of Fire Chief Amy Ramon and Assistant Chief Witt. As families looked on, the children stood together to take an oath—pledging to carry forward everything they’d learned and to one day be ready to help others in times of need. It was a moving finale to a week packed with unforgettable lessons, personal growth, and community spirit.

“This isn’t just a summer camp—it’s a launchpad for building character, developing initiative, and introducing kids to the incredible work of first responders in their own neighborhood,” said Chief Ramon.

The CFFD Kids Fire & Safety Camp is a local favorite, offered in two limited-capacity sessions each summer. With just 15 campers per session and a powerful mission at its core, this camp continues to leave a lasting impact on families and the broader Cy-Fair community. Registration is restricted to Cy-Fair residents, and campers are selected through a random drawing. With the second session scheduled for July 7–11, excitement is already building for the next round of future safety heroes.
