Dinosaurs, Live Shows and Summer Reading Adventures Return to LSC-CyFair Library This June

West Houston / Cypress  /  West Houston / Cypress
May 14 2026

This summer, the Lone Star College-CyFair Branch Library in Cypress is preparing to turn reading into an adventure — complete with dinosaurs, live animals, magic shows and community-centered family fun designed to keep children engaged long after the school year ends.

From June 1 through Aug. 1, the Harris County Public Library’s annual Summer Reading Program will bring its 2026 theme, “Unearth a Story,” to life at the LSC-CyFair library branch, offering families across Cypress and northwest Harris County a mix of educational entertainment, literacy activities and free community events for all ages.

For many local families, the annual summer program has become more than just a reading challenge. It serves as a way to keep children connected to learning, creativity and community during the summer months while giving parents free, accessible activities close to home.

The program officially kicks off June 3 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the library with dinosaur-themed crafts, activities and the opportunity for children to adopt a dinosaur friend while supplies last.

Participants can sign up for the Summer Reading Program at the library’s reference desks, through the Beanstack app or during the kickoff celebration itself.

Summer Reading Program Encourages Learning Beyond the Classroom

Throughout the summer, participants will be able to log books they read and earn prizes while attending story times, movies, games, crafts and special weekly programs sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

The initiative comes as many educators and parents continue emphasizing the importance of maintaining reading habits during summer break to help students avoid learning loss before returning to school in the fall.

In addition to encouraging literacy, the programming also provides opportunities for children and teens to socialize, explore new interests and engage with educational experiences in a welcoming community environment.

The LSC-CyFair branch library, located at 9191 Barker Cypress Rd, Cypress, TX 77433 on the Lone Star College-CyFair campus in Cypress, regularly serves families throughout the Cy-Fair area with year-round activities for children, teens and adults.

Dinosaur-Themed Events Headline 2026 Summer Schedule

This year’s dinosaur focus adds a playful twist to the summer lineup, with several interactive experiences centered around prehistoric creatures and wildlife education.

Among the new additions this summer is Bright Star Theater’s “Dino Academy: A Dinosaur Discovery Show” on June 24, featuring life-like dinosaur puppets and an action-filled educational performance.

Families can also attend Dino Bo’s “Carnivores vs. Herbivores” interactive program July 1.

Returning favorites are also expected to draw large crowds, including:

  • “Texas Snakes” on June 10
  • “Crocodile Encounter” on June 17
  • Reading time with Houston Astros mascot Orbit on July 8
  • Houston Repertoire Ballet performance on July 28
  • John’s Got Magic on July 29

The Houston Repertoire Ballet event will take place on a Tuesday rather than the usual Wednesday schedule.

Free tickets for Wednesday Summer Reading Program events will be available at the Kids Corner reference desk beginning 30 minutes before each session.

As Cypress continues to grow, libraries like the LSC-CyFair branch increasingly serve as gathering spaces where families can access free educational programming, technology resources and community engagement opportunities.

Programs like the Harris County Public Library Summer Reading Program also provide an affordable option for parents searching for summer activities in Cypress, especially as demand for family-friendly programming continues to rise across the area.

Beyond summer events, the LSC-CyFair library offers ongoing programs, activities and book clubs throughout the year for children, tweens, teens and adults.
