Dierker’s Champs Celebrates Championship Season at New Cy-Hope Sports Complex in Cypress

For years, Dierker’s Champs players practiced and competed wherever space could be found — on borrowed fields, rented diamonds, and even vacant lots. This spring, many of those same students stepped onto brand-new turf fields built specifically for them in Cypress, marking a milestone moment not just for the league, but for the broader Cy-Fair community.

Now, after completing its inaugural season at the newly opened Cy-Hope Sports Complex powered by Energy Capital Credit Union, Dierker’s Champs is celebrating both its championship teams and the remarkable journey that brought the facility to life.

Cy-Hope recently recognized the champions of the 2026 Dierker’s Champs season, congratulating players, coaches, and families across multiple divisions:

  • Arnold Middle School — A Division Champions
  • Cook Middle School-CFISD — B Division Champions
  • Francone Elementary — Minors Division Champions
  • Bang Elementary — Rookies Division Champions

Runners-up included Truitt Middle School-CFISD, Campbell Middle School, Andre Elementary School, and Duryea Elementary School.

But for many involved in the program, the season represented something much larger than wins and losses.

From Vacant Lots to State-of-the-Art Fields

The story of Dierker’s Champs began more than a decade ago when Cy-Hope sponsored baseball teams for students at Andre and Francone elementary schools in Cy-Fair ISD. Many of the children had never owned baseball equipment or played organized sports before.

At the time, Cy-Hope covered league fees because many families could not afford participation costs through traditional youth baseball organizations.

Even as the teams struggled competitively, the joy and confidence the players gained from simply being part of a team became impossible to ignore.

When the Cy-Fair Sports Association eventually eliminated its “Friendship” level of competition, Cy-Hope’s teams no longer had a place to play. After a temporary partnership with SpringSpirit Baseball, Dierker’s Champs officially launched its own league in 2018 serving Title I schools across Cy-Fair ISD.

The program steadily expanded, eventually growing to 36 teams serving hundreds of students throughout the district.

Still, one challenge remained constant: finding fields.

For years, Dierker’s Champs rented space and moved from location to location. The need became even more urgent when construction of Cy-Fair ISD’s administration building displaced the league from fields it had previously used.

That challenge ultimately sparked the vision for a permanent home.

A Community-Wide Effort Years in the Making

The Cy-Hope Sports Complex, located at 13002 Windfern Road in Houston, represents the culmination of years of fundraising, partnerships, and community support.

The approximately $5 million project was backed by major contributions from the Houston Astros Foundation, Energy Capital Credit Union, Cy-Hope donors, and community supporters who believed underserved students deserved access to the same quality facilities available elsewhere in youth sports.

Houston Astros owner Jim Crane and the Astros Foundation helped launch the project with a $1.5 million commitment, while Energy Capital Credit Union secured naming rights through a major sponsorship partnership.

The complex officially opened this year featuring:

  • Three state-of-the-art turf and hybrid baseball fields
  • Batting cages with professional-grade turf and lighting
  • Concessions and restroom facilities
  • Paved parking
  • Practice and tournament space for local teams and organizations

The facility was designed not only for Dierker’s Champs, but also as a long-term community asset for Cypress and northwest Houston youth sports.

More Than Baseball

Under the leadership of former Houston Astros All-Star pitcher and manager Larry Dierker, the program has always focused on more than athletic development.

Players in Dierker’s Champs are expected to maintain good grades, positive conduct, and school attendance in order to participate. Coaches and volunteers work closely with schools and families, helping create structure, accountability, and encouragement for students who may otherwise lack access to organized extracurricular opportunities.

Over the years, the league has become deeply connected to campuses throughout Cy-Fair ISD, with teachers, principals, parents, and even local high school athletes helping support the program.

When the groundbreaking ceremony for the new fields was held in 2024, Dierker reflected on how far the program had come.

“I can only imagine how our kids will feel going from the best vacant lots we could find to a state-of-the-art complex,” Dierker said at the time. “Part of our mission is to instill positive values while we enjoy playing the game.”

That vision is now visible every weekend on the new fields.

A First Season That Meant Something Bigger

For many families, the first completed season at the Cy-Hope Sports Complex symbolized stability, pride, and opportunity.

Instead of constantly searching for practice locations or adapting to limited field conditions, players now have a permanent home built specifically with their needs in mind.

The atmosphere surrounding the championship season reflected that growth, with students from schools across Cy-Fair gathering at a complex many once only imagined could exist.

The opening of the facility also positions Dierker’s Champs for future expansion, including additional leagues, tournaments, clinics, and community events that could eventually serve more than 1,000 students annually.

At a time when youth sports costs continue rising nationwide, the project also stands as a reminder of how local partnerships can help create access for families who might otherwise be left out.

What Happens Next

With the first championship season complete, the Cy-Hope Sports Complex is expected to continue hosting league play, practices, and rentals for outside teams and organizations throughout the year.

Community leaders say the facility’s long-term impact will extend well beyond baseball, helping provide safe spaces, mentorship opportunities, and stronger connections for students and families throughout Cy-Fair.

For the players who helped christen the new fields during this inaugural season, the memories are likely to last long after the final out.

And for many in Cypress, the success of Dierker’s Champs has become proof that when a community invests in its children, the results reach far beyond the scoreboard.
