Cy-Hope Fields Break Ground: A Game-Changer for Young Athletes in Cypress

May 02 2024

On May 1, 2024, the Cypress community gathered with eager anticipation for the groundbreaking of the much-awaited Cy-Hope Fields, the future home of Dierker's Champs, marking the beginning of a transformative journey for many young athletes.

This innovative venture is a $5 million project, backed by the Houston Astros Foundation, Energy Capital Credit Union, and Cy-Hope. As the project takes shape, it promises to deliver three turf fields, concessions, restrooms, batting cages, and paved parking, specifically designed to accommodate the nearly 54,000 disadvantaged students of Cy-Fair ISD.

The project is named after Dierker's Champs, a baseball league that operates under the umbrella of the non-profit organization, Cy-Hope. The league, under all-star pitcher and manager Larry Dierker’s leadership, is committed to transforming the lives of economically struggling students at Title 1 CFISD schools, providing them with top-tier baseball instruction in a positive environment.

Larry Dierker shared his excitement about the new complex saying, “I can only imagine how our kids will feel going from the best vacant lots we could find to a state-of-the-art complex. When our field of dreams becomes a reality, our kids will see that we practice what we preach.”

The Houston Astros Foundation has shown unwavering support for the initiative, reinforcing its commitment with an impressive $1.5 million donation. The Energy Capital Credit Union, a financial institution with strong ties to the Cy-Fair community, has been awarded the naming rights of the complex, which is expected to be completed by the spring of 2025.

The event was attended by notable personalities, including Jim Crane, owner of the Houston Astros; Paula Harris, Astros Foundation Executive Director; Kanika D Boutté, President/CEO of Energy Capital Credit Union; and Lawrence Bell of Harris County Precinct 3's Special Projects.

Kanika D. Boutté, President/CEO of Energy Capital Credit Union, shared her enthusiasm about the sponsorship, stressing that the partnership with Cy-Hope is in line with their aim of enhancing lives in their communities. She said, “When Cy-Hope presented this opportunity to us, it was one of the easiest decisions we’ve made. We are very excited for this partnership with Cy-Hope.”
