Hearthstone Community Garage Sale Returns October 10: How Residents Can Get Ready for a Successful Sale

Hearthstone Community Garage Sale Returns October 10: How Residents Can Get Ready for a Successful Sale

Hearthstone  /
September 10 2026

For Hearthstone residents with overflowing closets, outgrown children’s items or household goods that are still too useful to throw away, October will bring a good reason to finally tackle that “sell someday” pile.

The Hearthstone Community Garage Sale is scheduled for Saturday, October 10, 2026, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., giving neighbors several hours to sell unwanted items and browse bargains throughout the community.

Beyond the chance to declutter, a neighborhood garage sale can have a distinctly local feel. People who may normally pass one another on the way to work or school have an opportunity to stop, talk and explore other parts of Hearthstone while useful household items get a second life.

Preparing for the Hearthstone Community Garage Sale

Residents planning to participate can make sale day considerably easier by starting before the night before.

One of the most useful garage sale strategies is to sort items into categories as they are gathered. Clothing, toys, kitchenware, tools, books, home décor and sporting goods are easier for shoppers to browse when similar merchandise is displayed together.

Pricing items in advance is another time-saver. Clearly marked prices help shoppers make quicker decisions and reduce the need to repeatedly answer the same question during a busy morning. For residents hoping to move a large volume of smaller items, simple bundle pricing — such as several books or children’s items for one price — can also keep things moving.

Presentation matters, too. Clean merchandise generally shows better than items pulled directly from storage, while tables, clothing racks and boxes organized at an easy-to-see height can make a driveway sale feel much more approachable.

Start Early — Garage Sale Shoppers Often Do

Although the Hearthstone garage sale officially begins at 7 a.m., homeowners may want to have most of their setup completed before then.

Dedicated garage sale shoppers are known for getting an early start, especially during community-wide sales where many homes can be visited in a single morning. Having tables arranged, price tags attached and sale items ready before the announced start time can help residents avoid scrambling as the first shoppers arrive.

Sellers should also keep change available in a secure location. Small bills are particularly useful during the morning. Residents who choose to accept electronic payments should confirm transactions directly through their payment app rather than relying on screenshots or messages presented by a buyer.

A Little Organization Can Help Items Sell

Shoppers tend to linger longer when they can easily tell what is available.

Instead of placing everything into one large collection, sellers can create simple sections for children’s items, household goods, electronics, clothing and seasonal décor. Higher-value merchandise can be positioned where the seller can keep an eye on it.

It can also help to decide in advance which prices are firm and where there is room to negotiate. Garage sales naturally invite some bargaining, and having those decisions made ahead of time can make conversations easier for both buyer and seller.

For large items such as furniture, residents may want to measure dimensions beforehand so interested buyers can quickly determine whether a piece will fit in their vehicle or home.

Don't Forget Safety and Privacy

A successful garage sale is not only about what sells.

Residents should consider removing personal documents, prescription containers, shipping labels and anything else displaying sensitive information before placing items outside. Wallets, keys, phones and cash should remain secured and attended throughout the sale.

Driveways and walkways should also remain clear enough for visitors to move safely, particularly when tables, boxes and larger furniture are on display.

Families with children participating in the sale may find it helpful to establish where children can safely sit or help without being close to vehicles entering and leaving the area.

Goodwill Donation Collection on October 10

Goodwill will collect eligible donations in the park parking lot from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, October 10. Residents can bring accepted household items during that window, including items left after their garage sales. Large furniture will not be accepted at this collection because the cargo van has limited capacity.

Accepted donations include clothing, shoes, jewelry and watches, purses, backpacks, luggage, hats and accessories; art and picture frames, home decor, antiques, linens and throw pillows; books, toys and games, musical instruments and sporting goods; small appliances, electronics, flat-screen televisions, laptops, computers, tablets and cell phones; bicycles and small furniture in good condition. Yard equipment and tools are accepted only with empty gas tanks.

Do not bring mattresses, hazardous materials, batteries, chemicals, gasoline, insecticides, food, medications, large appliances, yard trash, construction materials, weapons, recalled products, car seats, cribs or strollers. The event-specific restriction on large furniture applies even though furniture appears on Goodwill's general acceptance sheet.

Have a Plan for What Doesn't Sell

For many residents, the biggest goal of a garage sale is reclaiming space — which means bringing everything back inside afterward can feel like starting over.

Before October 10, sellers may want to decide what they will do with unsold merchandise. Setting aside boxes for charitable donations or identifying items that can be recycled, given to neighbors or listed elsewhere afterward can help keep the day's decluttering momentum going.

It may also make it easier to negotiate during the final hours. Residents whose priority is clearing space rather than earning a particular amount may choose to reduce prices as the 2 p.m. closing time approaches.

A Saturday to Shop Close to Home

Residents who are not selling can still participate by heading out to browse.

Community garage sales can offer everything from children's toys and books to furniture, tools, seasonal decorations and household items — with the inventory depending entirely on what neighbors decide to put out that morning.

For buyers, bringing reusable bags, small bills and measurements for any particular furniture or household spaces can make bargain hunting easier.

For sellers, the Hearthstone Community Garage Sale offers something equally useful: a deadline. With Saturday, October 10, now on the calendar, there is still time to open the closets, check the garage and decide what could be ready for a new home.

And for a neighborhood where those new homes may be just a few streets away, the day is as much about neighbors crossing paths as it is about clearing shelves.
