Hays CISD Family Wellness Series to Host Virtual Substance Abuse Prevention Presentation on March 10

Hays CISD Family Wellness Series to Host Virtual Substance Abuse Prevention Presentation on March 10

February 11 2026

As conversations about teen mental health and student safety continue across Hays CISD, district leaders are inviting families to take part in an important discussion that could make a lasting difference at home.

On Tuesday, March 10, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Hays CISD Communications is promoting a virtual Substance Abuse Prevention presentation presented by Safe Schools Institute as part of the district’s ongoing Family Wellness Series. The session is designed to give parents and guardians practical, research-based information about how substance abuse affects adolescents — and what families can do to recognize early warning signs.

For many parents in Hays CISD communities including Kyle, Buda, San Marcos, and surrounding areas, the topic hits close to home. Understanding how drugs and alcohol impact the developing teenage brain isn’t just educational — it can shape conversations that protect a child’s health, academic success, and future opportunities.

What the Substance Abuse Prevention Presentation Will Cover

According to Hays CISD, the presentation will explain:

  • The effects of substance abuse on an adolescent’s brain
  • Common signs and symptoms of substance abuse in teens
  • Laws surrounding underage usage in Texas

The session will be held virtually via Zoom in English, with Spanish captions available to ensure accessibility for more families across the district.

By offering bilingual access, Hays CISD continues its effort to make family education inclusive and practical for all households in the district.

Why This Matters for Hays CISD Families

Substance abuse prevention remains a growing concern nationwide. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), early substance use can interfere with brain development, affect decision-making, and increase the risk of long-term addiction. For school districts like Hays CISD, prevention education is part of a broader commitment to student wellness and academic stability.

The Family Wellness Series is built around that mission. These evidence-based virtual sessions are designed to equip families with tools to support student mental health and overall wellness. The series is facilitated by the Safe Schools Institute and TCHATT clinicians in partnership with the Hays CISD Counseling Department, reinforcing a coordinated approach between mental health professionals and school leaders.

A Practical Step for Families

In growing communities like those served by Hays CISD, families often balance busy schedules with the everyday challenges of raising adolescents. Events like this virtual Substance Abuse Prevention presentation provide a simple but meaningful opportunity: one hour of focused information that can open the door to healthier conversations at home.

For many parents, knowing what to look for — and understanding the legal and health implications of underage substance use in Texas — can be the difference between reacting to a crisis and preventing one.

Hays CISD continues to expand access to family-centered education resources, reinforcing that student wellness starts beyond the classroom.
