H-E-B Commits $6 Million to Fight Hunger Across Texas, Supporting Local Programs Like Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels
In a powerful show of support for hungry Texans during an increasingly difficult time, H-E-B recently announced a combined $6 million donation to tackle food insecurity across the state. The Texas-based grocer is giving $5 million to food banks affiliated with Feeding Texas and an additional $1 million to Meals on Wheels programs — including $45,000 specifically allocated to Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels, which serves seniors across Fort Bend and Waller counties.
The generous investment comes as millions of Texans face mounting food insecurity exacerbated by the ongoing federal government shutdown, which has led to a historic lapse in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) payments. More than 3.5 million Texans, many of whom are children, seniors, or individuals with disabilities, depend on these benefits each month. As of November 1, those benefits have been paused — the first such disruption in the program’s history.
“At H-E-B, we are passionate about taking care of Texans,” said Winell Herron, H-E-B Senior Vice President of Public Affairs, Diversity and Environmental Affairs. “We are proud of our longstanding partnership with these incredible organizations that work year-round to support those in need.”
The $5 million gift will be shared among Feeding Texas' 20 food bank partners, which are working tirelessly to fill the gap left by paused federal aid and rising food costs. The donation is especially critical as Feeding Texas reports that over 22% of Texas children and 13.6% of seniors are currently at risk of hunger.

“H-E-B’s generous donation to Texas food banks couldn’t have come at a more critical moment,” said Celia Cole, CEO of Feeding Texas. “Across the state, families are facing mounting challenges, and this support will make an immediate and meaningful difference.”
H-E-B’s $1 million donation to Meals on Wheels will help deliver over 100,000 meals each day to homebound seniors throughout the state — including elderly residents in Fort Bend and Waller Counties. Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels, one of the local beneficiaries, plays a vital role in ensuring aging Texans can continue living independently without the fear of missing a meal.
“On behalf of Meals On Wheels Texas and the many individuals we serve, I want to extend our deepest gratitude to H-E-B for their generous support,” said Olivia Burdick, Board President of Meals on Wheels Texas and CEO of The Center in Boerne. “H-E-B’s generosity not only provides nourishing meals but also delivers hope, connection, and compassion to those who need it most.”
These commitments are part of H-E-B’s larger Hunger Relief program and its deeply rooted Spirit of Giving. Since 1982, H-E-B has donated more than 1.5 billion pounds of food to nonprofits across Texas and Mexico. Last year alone, the company contributed 35 million pounds of food to support local families in need.

In addition to these recent donations, H-E-B customers have helped raise nearly $1 million through the store’s “Help End Hunger” campaign. Another $500,000 was collected to feed pets in need across the state.
Throughout the holidays, H-E-B will also host its annual Feast of Sharing events — festive community dinners held in 34 cities across Texas and Mexico. These celebrations serve more than 340,000 meals annually and are powered by thousands of H-E-B Partners and volunteers.
As federal support systems like SNAP remain halted due to the government shutdown, the work of organizations like Feeding Texas, Meals on Wheels, and food banks becomes more essential than ever.
Texans looking to help can support local hunger relief efforts by donating to food banks, volunteering, or spreading the word about available food assistance. A “Find My Food Bank” tool, updated information on the shutdown’s impact, and donation options can all be found at feedingtexas.org.
For local support in Fort Bend County, Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels continues to serve vulnerable seniors with meals and a compassionate connection during uncertain times.
